    Basically just one question: Why?

Aren't these trucks pretty nice off the rack, so to speak? I see people pay extra $ to get an off-road suspension and then change the suspension??!! I also see people changing the tires and lifting their trucks. Why? What does that really gain anyone? What am I missing here? To each his or her own. I just don't get it.

Maybe someone can explain the advantage of a lifted truck?

I'm kind of new to the mod world. All I know is higher lift = bigger tires to put on = more fun and really looks kick ace

Lift = higher ground clearance (the frame/body of the truck, not the differentials.) and a little more space to clear bigger tires.

Bigger tires = more ground clearance (the whole truck. Differentials included.)

It's about making your truck YOUR truck.

Personalization is the great American pastime.

Everyone wants to make their vehicle a little unique to fit their own tastes, likes, and budget.

The tire part is incorrect unless you have a shitty lift that reduces wheel travel. (Or you don't use the full suspension travel).

I've heard this argument but it makes no sense to me at all. When you preload a coilover, shouldn't it reduce wheel travel?

Also, explain why you can fit 33"s with a 3" lift with minor rubbing, while you would have tons of rubbing without the lift with 33"s.

Lol. Different standards I suppose. Any amount of rubbing at any point in the articulation is not accepable, IMO. But to your point, the rubbing will hapoen in both cases, and will happen at the exact same point in both cases. only difference is without lift it'll hapen when the wheel moves up 1" with lift at 3" (made up figures), if your mall speed bumps only make the suspension move 2", you'll rubbing more often without lift. If you actually use your wheel travel, you'll get rubbing in both cases. Yes it happens when the wheels are turned and there are a lot more factors, but bottom line, lift will not give you more clearance to run bigger tires unless you have a lift that reduces how far the wheel travels into the fender.

I'm trying to grasp this, sorry that I'm not 100% on this. So if you articulate the suspension with a 3" lift, you'll still rub in the EXACT same place without lift? I always thought the lift would help mitigate the cutting process a little.

If you have a lift that reduces wheel travel, you are in the part of my statment that referred to as a shitty lift. It can sometimes the shock, or the bump stop, or the control arms that limits the wheel travel, its not always the spring. So unless we get into specifications of a particular lift and shock setup we can't take this much further.

Yes, it will rub at the exact same point. You will just hit that point less often with a lift. (Assuming the lift is not reducing travel).

No. The reason because it's not height that limits tire size. It is the length of the wheel well (from front to back). The tire rubs on the cab mount, not on the plastic at the top of the fender.

You don't need to lift at all to fit bigger wheels. You can fit 37s on a stock suspension if you trim enough.
