yeah, I don't think it is a bad thing. Electric motors will blow diesels out of the water when it comes to torque delivery

 

hydraulic motors do now. Most heavy equipment use their motors to run pumps which power hydraulics which drive a whole plethora of equipment which has unbelievable delivery power. 35 hp an move 8000 to 10000 up the steepest of grades from a dead stop.

 

Other then the grills on all Chevy trucks, they have good square design theme.

 

Kind of a confusing article when it says Toyota is not going to electric cars. The author should have said '" battery powed cars.
The fuel cell replaces the battery.

 

Exactly, fuel cell cars still use electric motors.

 

The battery wouLd kill the energy industry. But, with fuel cells, they still have everyone tied to a pump. Batteries are the ideal flex rule cause you can use everything from sunlight to hydro power to power your car. No, Exxon needs a cut and hydrogen is the big draw for the auto companies to share in the shake down.

 

Oh yeah the "new" electric joystick machines, are quite amazing compared to old machines where the levers and pedals are connected directly to the valves. Those joystick machines were just starting come out when I was getting out of the business. I have rented some new machines, pretty dang cool.

Wheel wells are a little too square, but overall not bad.

 

I look at it this way...if all the thousands of people on TW with thousands of drum braked tacomas really really wanted rear discs, then there would be throngs of threads about rear disc conversions, and many aftermarket offerings for them.

 

My neighbor a contractor let's me "play" with his equipment when I work for him. He has yet to let me play with his Mustang loader with 80-90 hp diesel with tracks. It has the joystick and is a hoot to drive.."he says"..20 mph then spin 5800 lbs around in it's own track. He put a siz way plow on it with another control stick and made a mini dozer.

 

Good point, but I've been in the auto repair business since 1985 and I've never seen a drum brake conversion, but I have seen a few disc brake conversions. In the case of the Tacoma, our drum brakes work fine and the expense of converting them to discs would not be worth it to most people including myself. My comment was referring to a debate in this thread that probably wouldn't have come up if the 3rd gen came with rear discs.

 

The GM twins may be .5 sec faster than the TRD auto, but how about a test against the manual with someone who can shift well. I'll bet the 430 gears will make up that .5 sec and then some.

 

I cant remember if I came across any magazine tests where the did a Manual but you are probably correct in them making one scoot a little better than the Auto.

The manual can unofficially do 0-60 in 6.1-6.3 seconds under the most ideal testing conditions. 2nd gear will take you to 62 mph at redline.

 

Who is this unofficial timer your referring to? I find this very hard to believe.

 

OR he knows how to use the "search" function.

 

Maybe he's trying to read all the posts on the 3rd gen and he has some catching up to do.
