Don't get all butt hurt on the labels. The title was regarding cost.. then ROI.. then perspectives justifying pro investments. If your taking offense to the perspectives of others saying their piece on the way Pro's are over priced, over sold, and under built then that's your own thing. Tacoma's aren't show trucks.. but Pros are. There isn't anything factual in here outside what you all paid for your trucks and what dealers are trying to gouge the general public for. Outside of crawl control I don't see many more advancements in the pro. It's a nice looking truck and I would never mod a pro after buying it. Why increase the value on something of when the ROI remains on a gradual decline even more so after said mods that we won't receive ROI on right?

Does someone have a graphical chart showing the decline on our investments? That would be nice.

. Gotta prove it. Not only is it nearly impossible to find a raptor around my parts( I looked) but getting invoice for one seems ridiculous. Then again you have gone through a bunch, maybe they give you the benefit of that.

You guys so sure cement will be a pro exclusive color or exclusive to 2017? I would bet otherwise.

And no such thing as 1st gen pro ;)

Over priced, under performance. "Custom (see: stolen other people's ideas) styling."

My thoughts on resale, a stock sr5 vs a stock pro same year and miles the pro will sale for more, but percentage lost on investment will be in the SR5 favor.

Now for modding the SR5 to the cost of a pro, he will never get the same resale, modifications pending. However with the fact that most of his parts will be bolt on and he keeps factory he can pull them off and move them to a newer truck or sell them his choice. If he keeps parts on there then yes hes taking a loss.

Overpriced as a matter of opinion, the time it would take me to build my truck, those 2 To 3 days I could've made more money at work then the money that I would've saved so I guess it just depends on how hard your balling...and besides the cement color which is fucking amazing, I always thought that the katzskin & clazzios just look lame in comparison to the pro interiors

No it isn't. The parts price is over what you'd pay for comparable and well into "high performance" components. Overpriced in this case is a fact.

You paid more for a color. Off white. You paid more for an off white truck to be "different." Just like all the other pro owners.

Dudes like you are so annoying on forums. Telling someone you dont know how they "wasted" their money in an underhanded way on something you most likely can't afford to begin with.

You guys are forgetting that Pros don't just have mad curb crawling capabilities, they also come with premium parking privileges. Worth at least $5k over sticker just for that.

Yea, it would be worth it if it had the 296 HP 3.5L that's in the Sienna. Or at least the "old" and outdated 270HP 4.0L and 5-speed.

The only thing that irks me is that you can't get the softex black in the LTD. That and no moonroof option on the Pro.

    Dear Toyota,
You've got us longing for a minivan engine or a 12 year old drivetrain.
    You screwed up.
    Sincerely,
    Your Tacoma customers

Hell no, cement is on a lot of other vehicles, I'm sure it'll be available on more in the future if Toyota does the maths and it can make money. I also don't think the cement pro will hold it's value any more than any other color pro (after a year or 2), and no way the pro will hold it's value like the 1st gen Raptors (they are still insanely priced). I say after a year or 2 as at the moment a Cement pro does command a higher price, I could easily find good deals on red and white pros, but finding a good deal on a cement was a lot harder.
But, the pro will hold a slightly higher used value than a OR, in the exact same way an OR will hold a slightly better used value than a SR5. And all will probably have a very similar % of depreciation, making the SR5 probably the best model to pick if that's what you are concerned with. Actually, looking at this forum I think an unmolested OR may have the best residual value of all the Tacomas, as finding one that's not been butchered will be difficult.

But, since I am lucky enough to have other highly modified vehicles and I wasn't looking to modify this one so the Pro was a good choice. If I was building I'd have started with an SR5, not the OR. MTS is worthless, as is electronic LSD, and while crawl control is ok, it's not worth the cost of the OR. Just about any aftermarket locker is better than the Toyota e-locker, so SR5 with aftermarket lockers would be my starting platform if I was going that route.
But I wanted a vehicle that was capable, I wouldn't have to mess with to make it what I wanted, and was going to keep pretty much 100% stock. paying $4k extra for the suspension (which is awesome), leather and no sunroof was well worth it to me. Rest of the pro stuff I wasn't really interested in. As for getting an OR and putting a decent-working non-show-lifted suspension setup and leather seats (I can't do covers) would put me at the $4k extra I paid. Then I'd still have a sunroof I hated & wheels I despise & god-awful grill, but on the plus side, a decent color. (I dislike all the Pro colors, just disliked Cement the least). So the OR would have cost me more than the Pro once I'd have changed the suspension / leather / wheels & grill.

A similar optioned Raptor is $20k more (not $5k like people are quoting), and it's $20k I'd have happily paid just because I think it's a better truck, but the size is just too big for what I wanted this vehicle to do for me. As for all the other BS in this thread, there seems to be way to many Starbucks parking lot adventure vehicle warriors that are clueless and just regurgitate other daft stuff they have read. TC should probably start advertising "beard balm & flannel shirts":D

Dude, Just get a TRD Off-road. PLus you can add the premium tech package if you want. It'll be significantly less plus you'll be able to negotiate a little better. You do get a 1" lift, better (but no great) tires, and better shocks. You can easily put new shocks are much better tires on after the fact. You could also lift it yourself if you wanted. To me, you'd be paying a huge premium for not a lot of extras. If the Pro upgrades and styling are really worth that much to you, go for iit. But from a performance perspective, def not worth it.
