Thinking about BDS 6" lift and 35s

I have a stock 2017 Tacoma DCSB TRD Offroad....

I really like the look of a 6" lift and the added ground clearance / approach angle / departure angles

I already have a brand new set of 35x12.50r18 nitto trail grapplers just sitting in my living room left over from my tundra that I ended up trading in for the tacoma.

I looked at two different BDS 6" lifts, the regular one for about $1900 and the Coilover one for about $3600. Wanted to match it with some new wheels with the right offset and my 35s that I already have.

Was wondering if this is how you would spend the money... or if there was a better 6" configuration... what else would I need to spend to make this 6" lift work properly?

authorized dealer/installer of BDS quoted me $1000 labor to install the lift and $1850/$1950 for the regular 6" BDS lift w/o the coilovers.

In before the bashing of drop crossmember lifts.

That being said, save yourself the thousand dollars on install and do it yourself. Put it towards the kit with the coilovers.

Do you understand how the 6" BDS lift works? If so, rock on. If not I'd do some research. You have to cut a large section out of the cross member of your frame. Furthermore, actual suspension performance is less than the 3" lift alternatives that consist of coilovers and control arm/s. That being said if your main goal is to fit the 35s then the 6" may be the easiest route. Fitting 35s even on a LT 3" lift requires lots of trimming and new fenders.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Just remember that true ground clearance comes from your wheels, not the lift.

I'm seriously considering it - I like the look of 6" and that it can fit 35s. I figured BDS is a good lift kit.

It's not a bad route brother, it will work fine. All the guys on here are about 3 inch lifts. They're gonna try to steer you away from it but its your truck your money. Nothing partcularly wrong with a 6 inch lift. Also try checking out bulletproof suspension they make a high quality kit as well.

Just be prepared these guys on here will bash the fuck out of it. But I'm more of a to each their own kinda guy, if you like it go with it. I do know as far as 6 inch lifts go BDS is one of the better companies (stay away from rough country and other cheap lift companies). I'd either go with BDS or Bullet Proof Suspension.

Whichever you do go with the coilover, in the long run it will save you money on chewed up CV's, and other parts that wear and tear because of spacers.

I'm not sure if I like cutting the cross members on the 6" lift. If I get a 3" lift then I wouldn't need to do that right? Plus on BDS 6" lift with coilovers it's $3600 and on the rear it's just on some blocks. The 3" lift kits that I look at use the add-a-leaf etc. seems like it's much more stable / better ride/performance than just blocks on the rear from the 6" bds kit.

Correct. You do not need to cut the cross member for a 3" coilover lift. AAL is better than blocks but full leaf pack replacements are better yet. E.g. dakars or deavers.

If you go 3" just get coilovers , AAL , and UCAs and you could still be close to 2k-2.5k installed. and it will ride much better than a 6 and factory.

Hey Bro... 35's on a Gen3... you'd be the first .... go bro go... I think it will look pretty bad ass.

Gonna need to save money cause new gears... just sayin.

THE real question should have been:

"How much lift do I need to fit 35s on my truck?"

    Answer....35s wont fit, bro.

Sell the 35s .... the Taco is a much smaller truck than the Tundra.

Sell the 35's and get a real lift for your Taco. Going over 3" is just not worth the headache of everything involved.

Most people running 35's around here are running 3" lifts with HEAVY trimming.

If you want 35's that badly I would look at Allpro, Baja, or Total Chaos Long Travel kits

I believe the drop bracket route has less ground clearance then a regular lift with the same size tire.

Dont want to thread jack but why do I always see drop bracket kits with the lower arms flat? Can they not be pushed any further down to gain more ground clearance? Or is that the differenct between a 4" lift vs a 6" lift with the arms pushed further down? Some times I wish I went the drop bracket lift to fit 37" eventually but once I start off roading and leaning 30+ degrees I'm glad my center of gravity is lower. I'll just stick to my 3" lift with eventually 35" tires.
