This whole thing has been pulled and pushed to the point that every word will be picked apart and scrutinized.

We had it all - whining, complaining, bandwagons, arguments, hurt feelings and absolutely no resolve - all due to not checking clearances on install.

Old instructions or new instructions. Doesn't matter. Double checking the work and using some common sense usually is goes further anyways.

It's a aftermarket performance shock upgrade designed to work around stock constraints. People have made it out to be some jig-saw puzzle that requires a master degree.

 

Well, you guys keep enjoying Icon, this is where I will agree to disagree with you. Sorry Icon, I won't ever recommend you.

 

If a King/Fox/OME/Bilsten was installed incorrectly and the manufactured denied warranty - would everyone jump all over them too?

Is there such a thing called self accountability anymore or is everything to be considered free hand outs no matter the circumstances?

 

installed incorrectly is an assumption you are making at this point without verification from OP yet. if there was a malfunction and some shitty wording "fine print" like Icon has kept mine from being fixed then yes I would in a heartbeat. King customer service doesn't seem to have (m)any complaint threads though.

 

You keep saying fine print, but it's very clear in the instruction with pictures and everything. Just wanted to clarify that one.

 

Look at the picture. The fitting is clearly hitting the mount.

 

And why is there no verification from the OP yet? Quite a fuss here and nothing has been done or checked.

 

I say fine print because they use a different word in each location. Sand/Cut/Grind whatever covers their ass.

That doesn't mean it was installed incorrectly to the instructions.

 

One shouldn't need instructions to know that the fitting shouldn't be hitting or nearly touching the mount...

 

ah, but without instructions...the "OE FITMENT" statement goes to waste. would your first thought really be "hm let me sand that away". Mine would be, hm I need to cut that out some. BUT WAIT IT SAYS NO CUTTING THEY LIED TO ME.

 

also, as state previously...some professional shops have installed tons of these. prior to and after the instruction change. do you expect them to read the changes and all of a sudden know that they have to cut them when previously they didn't? nothing changed about the truck or product, ICON designed it poorly and decided changing instructions was enough of a fix.

 

I do agree with that, and at the same time I really can't see someone reading instructions to install a set of OEM replacement shocks lol. If I brought my vehicle in to get the shocks replaced and the mechanic required installation instructions I think I'd be a little worried.

 

I don't know how no one has called this out yet but here goes but since it was the first thing I noticed when I first saw this a couple days ago...... If you look in the Original Post look closely at how the top nut is threaded down on the stem.

Now look at the instructions for the install....



If you read up on the step for tightening the nut it says to make it flush to prevent premature bushing wear. I would also wager this has negative effect on the hose fitting by raising it closer to the shock mount.

Icon could throw this at him and deny the warranty claim.

And FYI that bit wasn't added into the instructions recently, it was in my install instructions when I put mine in over a year ago....

 

A professional installer should know, if they've done tons of these, to orientate the body and reservoir in such way to prevent it from being an issue. I doubt they'd even touch the instruction sheet for something so simple.

That would be an even bigger dick move than saying his instructions may or may not have said to grind the frame.
