ICON LEAKING RESI, WARNING, NOTCHING, BS AND F**KS GIVEN

To be honest I think many are getting pretty fixated on the issue that they might have to modify their vehicles in some capacity with aftermarket stuff. Since I have been used to bolt on applications from coilovers, I find this a little different, but manageable. Remember, Icon is playing hardball that anyone who deviates the slightest in their install, wont be covered even though the OPs literature might of been correct when it was sent out.

To me, Icon is just using the cheap cop out that I think many other companies wouldn't resort to, but again I say this coming from products that havn't let me down at all and have been eager to work with me. Not to add more fuel to the fire, but at one point I even considered getting Icon, but besides the digressive valving, it was the reputation I had experienced from King that kept me with them. Just unfortunate that these games seem to exist with Icon, when I feel they should have some more understanding...especially if they are playing this "we changed our literature, Im sorry that you might not of received the memo."

 

HAH! gimme a couple of minutes to make some scans and I'll have up the old instructions.

 

Why do people need such detailed instructions for such simple and obvious things?

I don't think its so much that, but that if there is the SLIGHTEST error in your install. Sorry bro, I can't help you...strict breach of warranty.

No, the first picture shows the shock hose fitting slightly angled, so that its more parallel with the frame. The second photo is of what NOT to do making the fitting more perpendicular to the frame.

 

no, the first photo shows a "notched" bucket. the second photo shows a "not notched" bucket. yes, it shows the hoses at different angles, but 2 different buckets too. so if someone followed the directions without notching they'd still have an issue.

I know this might seem a little redundant, but maybe Icon should consider adding to their instructions a very "bold" warning label for non-professional installation? Many in this community (including me) think installing coils is a weekend job with a few beers which sometimes other members will come to assist. I could easily see me hitting this frustration with a few buddies, especially if conflicting literature somehow screws me on a warranty due to not being advised in the appropriate channels.

Obviously the timeframe between notching and not has come and gone. Since a TW member will lose his warranty to not notching his rear shock mount, I think it might be a good idea for Icon to consider saying something as "you will void your warranty if you DO NOT NOTCH your bracket" if they don't already do so.

Im just salty that it seems through a customers bad experience, that they will have to learn this political bullshit for everyone else.

 

I will be the first to say "Yes, it looks weird" but, no it is NOT notched, it honestly appears they made a mark with a silver paint marker like they were going to grind it, but don't say anything in the instructions and don't show any photos of grinding it out there.

 

You make and offer a product. It costs money to do this. It's a fairly basic thing and you include some instructions (Just for clarity here, let's forget about the notching and instead focus on the tightening the stem as that's clear as day and has been in the instructions since day one).

You sell the product and a few months afterwards you get contacted about warranty. You can see that nothing you did was wrong and was clearly installed incorrectly. The nut is WAY over-tightened and has caused clearance issues. It's not your fault or the products. Who ever installed the product installed it to parameters outside of what you specified. You would still warranty it and pay out of your own pocket to correct someone else's mistake?

It is not, look very closely at the PDF, you can see a line below the bright white line, that is the bottom of the shock mount.

Its kinda hard to see on the scan, but the original copy in my hands its easier to see
