I might have an extra front diff (3.73) at home but I have to double check. I had one at one point but I'm not sure if I gave it away already. I'll know more later tonight when I get home

In Rancho cordova there is a few spots he could get a replacement diff worst case the auto parts stores could get one in a day or two normally.

There is a place local that has a ton of 1st gens, not sure on gearing, but I would be happy to pick one up. Would need to be shipped though as I can't make it to Bishop. Could probably get there tomorrow morning.

Found one for 300. I cant make that drive tho. Just had back surgery. I can pick up the diff

FWIW there is no difference between engine types. All 4wd 1st gen tacos/3rd gen runners/1st gen tundras run the same front diff. Were it can be different is electric actuation or vacuum.

Here's his number for anyone able to help. He has called junkyards in a few places (Fresno) etc. and they have them for around 250 bucks, but he has no way to get there.

Just talked to him and it looks like removing the CV is probably the best bet since he doesn't have all the tools to do a diff replacement.


As such, does anyone know for certain if you can just cut both CV boots (inner/outer) and remove the middle shaft? Any other tools needed to release the shaft on the outer CV end? I know the inner is just sitting in the cup, but have never messed with the outer. @jberry813 I remember you did this at Hollister years ago with the RDP.
