33" on Stock Suspension- nope

I just purchased some 285/75/16 Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar, on a set of Dick Cepek wheels. As I found out tonight, the 33's will not work stock. There is a lot of rubbing in the front, when i barely turn the wheels. Luckily I have a kit coming in: 3" front and 1.5 rear.

A question: Will the above lift fix my rubbing problem, or will I need to do some body work? If body work is needed, what do I need to do? I see a lot of trucks on here without the mudguards, does that help reduce rubbing? What is best to remedy rubbing?

I think you will be ok once you have your lift in, you may have to remove the front mud flaps though. Someone else with this exact set up will probably chime in and give you some good advice. Good luck with it and post a few pics when its done.

what lift are you planning to run?

 

I bought this last night 3" spacer upfront, and add a leaf in rear (1.5-2").

 

pre load spacer or top mount spacer?

3" up front will clear the tires with 4" backspace... when you get your alignment done, see if they can set your caster 1.5 to 1.7 degrees forward to keep the sidewalls from rubbing the pinch weld on turns...

 

They are top mount. Great ideas on the alignment part.

So, no body cutting should be needed after I complete the above?

You will rub on "hard-over" turns and when mudding. A buddy of mine has 285's and a 3" lift and he rubs. Not significantly but on sharp turns and bumpy ass roads.

 

But depending on the spacing, you could just barely clear it. Good luck man

 

That lift will work fine with those tires. You might rub a tiny bit, but nothing to seroius, it'll look good too, just don't forgot to put some pics up when you got them all mounted

 

I was playing around today, and put the new 33's on before the lift. I then, put the jack underneath, and raised about 3". After removing the front flaps, the tires still rubbed a little of the inside of the fender flare. Can I trim the flare, without trimming the truck body? Doesn't look like i'll have to trim much, but may have to. Thoughts?

I took some pictures of how the truck looks today, so I'll post them in a few. And then, post some after the lift and new tires.

 

you will be fine. i have a 3" toytech lift, and just put 285/75r16 m/t's on my taco this past monday and i have no rubbing isues at all, and im on stock tundra rims.

and as mentioned, make sure to get some pictures.

i have 285's and a 3" suspension lift and i dont rub at all on full lock turns but i did rub a little against the cab but i fixed that by bending the metal so now i have no rubbing at all even when off-roading.

 

All of these comments are making me excited to get that lift in. It should be here Wednesday sometime.
