Sure I can do that. I don't like to give my opinion with out putting big air quotes around it. Stating that all suspension after market is good. The amount of "good" it is depends on who's truck it's on and how loud they yell on the forums. This is just why "WE" like Icon. So don't take this as an attack on any brand. if you like stock then more power too you. This is just what "I" have seen after 15 years doing this.

The reason I went with Icon many years ago? I was a huge king fan to start off with, if I was building a race truck there stuff is great. One of the major down falls of it is the design. The top cap external verses internal threading only allows a certain size shock into the space provided by the factory. I remember years ago installing kings on customers cars who had Fabtech (sway away) coil overs or even stock and we had to pick the lower arm up to get the bottom bolt to slide in. For years they actually had less travel than stock or aftermarket. I'm honestly not sure if that problem has ever been fixed. When I questioned King about it, I got an answer of (it's limited because the geometry of the suspension only allows so much droop) In reality they were adapting a off the shelf race part into a daily driven truck, of course it wont fit. It's not a race truck with custom shock mount points. I think to some degree they may have fixed this problem in the last 13 years.

In comparison, Icon makes two different shock lengths one for no UCA one for with. Also in comparison, when I come to them and say "you guys really need xy or z" I don't get the typical "I'm too cool for you I build race car response" they actually listen, they actually seem to care what the end users are doing with their trucks. They also bounce stuff off me and other shops they have a working relationship with. They take feed back and I see it in current products and designs.

Another big difference is the coils, I believe it's still an off the shelf re-painted eibach coil. ( I could be wrong) But the coil rings are so close together that on full compression if the shock doesn't bottom out on it self first the coil will. This is why Icon and others have a custom coil made for their shocks. Again I could be wrong, but i haven't actually broke out the calipers recently and compared it to non existent numbers from years back.

Back in the day the head engineer and owner of the company invited me over to their shop. At the time I was a very small time fabricator in a small little shop in Santa ana. I went for a ride in the head engineers truck. It was all I needed to be sold. One of the first things I noticed is the bottoming out. I asked about it. Most coil overs when you air out the suspension (tires fully droop out) you get a pop or loud clunk noise. It's the shock stocking the front end from coming apart. race trucks will run limit straps as do some daily drivers. Icon has a built in set of washers that colasp on each other creating a internal bump stop. Just makes for a nice ride and shows the ingenuity that goes into them.

Today, the number one thing that keeps us pushing their product line, is that they have a product line. I don't need to order 5 different parts from different manufactures and hope they all work together. I don't need to explain to the customer that "sorry dude these coil overs were built with what they had left on the shelf that's why the fittings are too big and we can't adjust the coil overs on the truck". I can get parts from one provider and I still receive great customer service from them. Because daily driver suspension is what they build. They are not a race company that has a soft spot for daily drivers and will stop production to make you a product. All they do is OE replacement stuff.

At the end of the day, people can buy what they want, it's all good quality parts. I see a lot of Icon leaking stories now but they also sell the most to OE application users. We still install Kings, Fox, bilstien, OME and even a couple radflos.

These are my reasons, they don't have to be yours but if you want to use them, I don't mind:)

Had problems with icon leaking years ago on the 4 runner, they never made it right, dumped them and went with king, not a single issue. Inferior product, but it's America, you can buy what you want.

Thanks for taking the time to write this Jason. When you are saying that icon provides dedicated coils for ucas and stock oem ucas, do you mean like extended vs non extended coils?

Thanks for the history lesson Jason. I can def see from a oem replacement that icon can appeal to the market for those looking to upgrade their existing stock coils. I guess I have always liked the race truck style as the kings have treated me pretty well. Since it seems the big players these days have extended and non extended, would that have possibly helped rectify the issue with droop that you said kings used to be known for? I think back when I had my 04 Tacoma, I can't remember if coilovers came extended or not. I would like to think they had those options back then?

    Thank you for the welcoming!

Yes, post our revision to the instructions, improper installation (not notching the bucket) is not covered under warranty as a manufacture defect.

@ICON_Brian @Icon_Madison - an inexpensive solution until you're able to redesign the fitting would be a warning tag affixed to the hose on RR shocks indicating that the bucket needs to be modified or warranty will be void and to see instructions for further details.

Seems this would help both the driveway mechanic and the professional installers.
