@TacoWave do you have experience driving highway speed with it stowed virtically? If so, does it move around at all or create wind noise?

I haven't driven with the cover stowed vertically; it's probably not the best position for the highway. Although most of the cover is behind the rear window, that position probably causes some wind turbulence at highway speeds.

The prop rods are sturdy, but I can see the cover moving around some when driving over larger road imperfections.

Sorry I don't have a more factual answer for you.

Sema didn't produce any publications like I had hoped. Will be ordering tomorrow. Still liking it @TacoWave?

As the temp significantly dropped here in the North East, I experienced some difficulty getting the latches to lock into the striker plates. Particularly the passenger side latch on the last panel; said a few choice words trying to readjust. Even though the tailgate can be closed with the last panel closed or opened, it's best to close the tailgate then Locking the last panel. This way the end cap seals rest on top of the tailgate and are not being pushed in by it. At least from my experience.

Key is proper install and readjustments. Otherwise, it's a good product and looks better than the OEM in my opinion.

TacoWave, Thanks for pretty much the only review of the X2t on a taco available. After a few months of ownership, are you still happy with your purchase? I'm torn between this and an undercover se. Seems like the X2t is more practical. How often, if ever, do you find yourself only folding it over once or twice? -Thanks for the help! - Steve

    Glad to help.
I don't think too many people have the X2T on their Taco. It's a solid cover; I'm happy with it. Would be great if it was made in the USA and if the panels came in a matte black.

Personnally, I don't like the one piece tonneau covers. Whenever full bed access is needed, the cover has to be removed. Although they apparently are best at keeping the bed dry.

I fold the X2T over to the second position occasionally, but wouldn't recommend driving with it folded over just once, as it will slam shut when the truck goes over bumps in the road. Whenever I close the tailgate, I make sure to open the first section of the cover and then close the tailgate. This way the seals mounted on the bottom of the cover rest on top of the tailgate rather than being pushed in by it.

Hi, I was thinking about getting this lid. You mentioned that the rail tie downs won't work? Do the brackets block the rail out? Also wondering if the bed can be closed without opening the lid. My dealer hasn't gotten one in yet. Thanks!

    Hi nairb,
Yes, the mounting rail for the tonneau installs too close to the Tacoma's tie down rail system. So the tie downs wouldn't fit properly because they would rest against the tonneau mounting rail. It's possible to squeeze them in, but this could damage the rail.

The bed can be closed without opening the lid.

I wonder if Leer discontinued the x2t for the Taco. Your dealer should have it, I purchased mine back in October 2016.

Thanks! According to the Leer dealer they've been sold out, some come in mid next month. I've been stuck between this one and the bakflip mx4. Maybe I can find some low profile tie downs.

It's a tough decision between the two, can't go wrong either way.

    A few things to consider:

    MX4
    - Installs lower in the bed (flush with bed rails)
    - The Tacoma's tie down rail system has to be lowered for install
    - Requires drainage tubes (have to drill small diameter holes in the bed)
    - Rests on the cab when in the upright position
    - Has a cable pull latch release mechanism
    - The matte black finish is sweet

    X2T
    - Installs over the bed rails, but still has a low profile
    - No drainage tubes needed
    - Doesn't rest on the cab when in the upright position
    - Has a pinch release latch system
    - Comes with two LED lights that can be repositioned to other panels

Thanks for your post! I put down a deposit for the x2t. I'm in Hawaii so it may be a while before getting it...

Have the latching issues on your X2T gotten any better or worse? I went into my local Leer dealer today to have it installed. They told me 30 minute job when I ordered it and scheduled to bring the truck in. Short story is that after 90 minutes of installation they tell me that the unit is defective - the passenger side won't latch. Ironically, sounds like your passenger side is the one that's a little difficult to latch too. I liked the X2T for all the other attributes, but getting concerned about the quality of the latches. Would love to hear your experience before I go back for the replacement they ordered. Thanks.

Reviving an old thread here, but I'm looking at this or the MX4 and want to get a few things straight if you don't mind TacoWave.

    1) How has the cover held up?
    2) The cover installs in the bed rails but only blocks them at the bracket locations, correct?
    3) Do the OEM tie-downs still fit with the cover closed?
    4) You said above that you lift the last panel before closing the tailgate...does the tailgate let water in if you don't do this?

    Thanks

Answered your questions above. I really like this lid and the ease to remove it without tools, though a little heavy and awkward to carry.

I'm leaning towards the XT2 mainly for the added security of the pinch latch system, as opposed to the pull cords on the BAKFLip and the Undercover folding tonneau covers. Do you have a feel for how easy it would be to break into this cover @nairb ? The MX4 and UltraFlex are not secure at all, really.
