Hi everyone. First time Tacoma owner of a '17 Limited 4x4. I purchased my car with the odometer reading 103 miles. The dealership didn't disclose the information that it came from another dealership. I thought it was from test drives. I found this out after adding the car to the mycarfax website, entering the VIN, and seeing that it did not originate from the dealership I purchased it from. Would this bother you guys? Is there anything I can do or get back if I go back to the dealership? I already signed the contract so I feel like I'm S.O.O.L. Ahhh I need some opinions. Thanks! I do love the truck though!

Do you like it? Does it drive like the one you test drove? That would determine whether or not it was annoying for me.

Nothing to worry about. Dealer trades happen all the time. Most of the time, they are between local dealers where it doesn't make sense to put it on a truck to transfer. They drop off one vehicle and drive another back to the other dealer. My Taco and STi were both dealer trades.

It should say at the bottom of the window sticker what dealership it came in at. Mine was the same and had 150 miles on it. But I don't mind at all, doesn't matter to me where it came in and where it was moved.

Transfers happen all the time between dealers, I'd rather have those miles being a one shot trip from dealer to dealer than a bunch of 10 mile test drives by bubby joe and his beer buddies! My 2cents.

Rest easy. Most dealerships have a cadre of drivers who shuttle cars back and forth. Works great in letting a customer buy the car they want from the dealer they want, even if that dealer doesn't have the car on their lot.

We've had a few of these over the years. They start your warranty at the mileage that it has when you officially receive the keys. One of ours had 250 on it from being driven from another state.

its not unusual at all for dealers to get other cars from different dealerships to sell, if the potential buyer wants a certain color or package that's not on the lot they will contact other dealers to see if they have one. I did this on a car I wanted in a certain color which another dealer had on their lot the purchase went down as planned no issues at all

Shouldn't really matter. How far is other dealer? Subtract that and you will know how many test miles. Well, unless it came on Truck? If there's nothing wrong with it why the concern?

It's very normal for dealers to swap inventory, and they don't need to disclose that to you, the 100 miles might be from then driving it between dealerships. It wouldn't concern me in the slightest and you have absolutely no merit to ask for anything from the dealer.
Only issue you will have is if the previous dealership registered it, then you are in fact buying a used car and will show that way on your registration (You will also have loads of leverage to sue / ask for compensation if that's the case)

Thanks for your input. How do I find out if the previous dealer registered it? :help:Only way is when I get my new registration in the mail? Or that would mean the car would have plate numbers already at the time of purchase right?
On the carfax right now it only shows "pre-delivery inspection completed" at 2 miles from original dealership it came from. I did the math and assumed they must have done a dealer trade with the dealer I bought it from since the math/miles adds up.

That's a good way to put it.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Trades happen all the time between dealers. Heck, we were buying a 2016 Forester and negotiating with a dealer about a particular car, they wouldn't come down to where we wanted on price.... So we went to another dealership about 50 Miles away. The second dealer didn't have the car, but said they could get one. The car shows up at the second dealer and we paid about $2000 less for it. Turns out it was the same VIN as the car we first looked at.

That's awesome. I wish I caught/found this out at the time of negotiating to get more off. First time buyer mistake. Oops.

My dealership traded an auto they had on a lot for a manual 300 miles away. At least you didn't have to pay the destination charge! I wouldn't worry about it like everyone else said, enjoy your truck!!

No, dealer #1 didn't register it. They put one of their temporary plates on it and sent it on it's way. You've seen those temporary dealer plates, right? The magnetic ones that just stick on. A lot of dealerships use them for test drives.

The dealership you bought it from will register it for you - no different than if it was on their lot to start with.

Ask the selling dealer for a copy of the "Certificate of Origin" this should clear any concerns.
