Does anyone have any experiece with the rock sliders from RCI? I poked around a bit but didn't find anything on here. I saw some reviews on YouTube but they seemed more like sponsored reviews rather than honest feedback.

I bought mine somewhat recently and haven't gotten to install them, but the quality is top notch and the RCI guys are awesome!

Biggest thing is that they are made from DOM. They should have square tubing for the mounting legs and main rail. Round tubing where rocks and trees will typically impact.
I am trying to sell a set of DCSB rock sliders right now for a friend. He wants $430 for them shipped.
The legs are not welded on so that the purchaser can determine how far the want the sliders to stick out off the frame.... some people like to keep them close and tight, some like them to stick out a bit so they can be used as steps....
Hit me up if you are interested...

Good to know! I've been going back an forth between them and White Knuckle. Either way, I'm going to get the RCI skid plates that I saw you have. My stock is already beat to hell.

I have them. for the 3rd gen. They look and feel stout. I put them on myself and I would advise doing it with someone and the job would take less than an hour for both sides.

Hey guys. I just got off the phone with RCI and they said that their sliders are not constructed using Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) but are Hot Rolled Electrically Welded (HREW). They feel that the added benefit of DOM is not worth the added cost, and that the HREW sliders are plenty strong - strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle. THIS HAS CHANGED! My original post was on August 10, 2017. Since then, RCI has changed their product, and is making the round outer steel bar out of DOM steel (stronger than HREW steel), while the rest of the slider is still HREW. You can see the new product description on their website: https://www.rcimetalworks.com/2016-Tacoma-Rock-Sliders-TACO-16-06.htm This update I am writing is being posted on June 6, 2018.

Comparing cost - RCI sells their sliders (regular length - meaning Double Cab Short Bed, or Access Cab Long Bed) for $660 (including powder coat). DOM sliders from CBI are $890 with the same options; DOM sliders from Mobtown are $800. Pelfreybilt sliders are a hybrid of DOM and HREW, and sell for $735. UPDATE: the new sliders from RCI with the DOM outer tubes are more expensive - go to their website for current prices.

Wait time right now (August 2017) for RCI with powder coat is 3-4 weeks; wait time for Pelfreybilt with powder coat is 12-13 weeks (wait times taken from both company's websites on August 10, 2017).

Maybe if you are regularly thrashing in the rocks, and hitting your sliders hard every weekend, then DOM makes sense. I don't know - I don't have the engineering background to make that call. I am going to roll with RCI, but to be fair, a big part of my reason is that I can drive one hour to pick them up, which will save me something like $200 or $250 in shipping. So for me, it will be $660 total, as opposed to roughly $1,000 for any of the other brands (after shipping).

Lastly, I have RCI skid plates on my truck, and I am happy with them. I think they make quality products, and they are made right here in Colorado, and I like supporting local businesses.

In conclusion, my reasons for going with RCI are not based on a strength comparison of DOM vs HREW, but on cost and locale.

    Cheers!

Follow-up to previous post: all prices quoted were with the kickout, and without top plates (aka "filler plates", aka "traction plates"). Top plates from RCI are an extra $100, while top plates from Pelfreybilt and Mobtown are an extra $150. Good luck choosing sliders, hope this was helpful!

Damn - one more follow-up. It looks like Mobtown is quoting closer to $150 for shipping to many locations (all depends on your zip code). So the price I quoted above ($200-$250) is too high for many locations. Contact vendors for accurate shipping costs!

You're north of us, we are in M.D. Our sliders are built using DOM only. HREW might be fine for some people but we've dented that tubing lifting the truck with a hi lift, no dice.

We took a vastly different and improved approach on our design too. Some might say they're over engineered.

Everyone offers "bolt on" sliders, but we are using 3 attachment methods making them the strongest bolt on option to date.

No matter who you chose, I know you'll be happy. Tons of great companies out there.

Hey Mobtown - thanks for your presence on this forum! Your sliders look awesome. I wish you were in my neighborhood. Good to hear your thoughts on DOM vs HREW. Got any sweet specials going on?

Thanks for the prompt reply Mobtown! My truck is a 2017 Access Cab in Quicksand - its really unfair of you to have the same truck on your website with your great looking sliders. Can I sue you for taunting me so? Haha! Thanks again for hanging out here!

For what it's worth, I bought a set of RCI skid plates for my previous car and was really happy with them.
