Before I put a aftermarket radio in my Tacoma I want to try new speakers. What would be the best set for a 2015 4 door?

I went to Cructhfield and asked an advisor.
Ended up with Focals in the front and JBL's in the back, 3 years ago I think.
I have just upgraded my HU to a Pioneer and they all work together great.

    HU
    Pioneer AVH-X2800BS DVD Receiver
    Item #130X2800BS
    Speakers in the front
    Focal Auditor R-165S2 6-3/4" 2-Way Component System
    Item #091165S
    Speakers in the back
    JBL GT7-6 6-3/4" Car Speakers
    Item #109JBLG76

I mounted the tweeters from the Focals in the Black round door trim where the original ones were and in hindsight, I should of either got mounts from *********(?) or used some strap to hold them behind the trim. It looks ok, but you cannot buy that trim piece by itself, so if you screw up it is a problem...
I also used some Dynamat in the doors and used the speaker covers to keep any water off them from the
backside, if that makes sense \/

Works for me and I really like the setup

A word of warning, new speakers wont sound any better until you upgrade the head unit. I did all 4 speakers and a Kenwood HU from Crutchfield. Total was $420 and the sound difference is huge. I did the speakers first and no difference, the stock HU just doesn't have the power. The new HU made all the difference, now I can hear my music with the windows down.

Upgraded head unit specifically or just more power to drive the aftermarket speakers? I would think that line-out converters and an amp would be able to deliver a pretty noticeable upgrade over the stock speakers while still using the stock head unit.

I should've been more clear. Running aftermarket speakers AND an amp will get you better sound. Just upgrading speakers will not. My new setup is twice as loud as stock.

Due to how crappy the source signal curve behaves for every variant of the Tacoma's stock head unit...the accepted upgrade path in the Tacoma is head unit first, speakers second, then regular audio upgrades beyond that.
