Cool cool, that's right. Anybody do a cable locker for our rears? I know in other parts of world there are a couple companies that do for Cruisers and Hilux's. Is our rear end used in any other international models by Toyota? Anyone know off hand?

 

If you already have the elocker axle there are cable conversions for it as well as at least one air actuator conversion.

 

Oh okay, and non e-locked axles are SOL then for a cable locker? I'll prolly just have to go lunchbox locker than, when the time comes.

I must have one for my Desertaco. Would look awesome on the rear cabside with the gold paint.

 

Anyone know if I could fit the elongated '01-'04 style speakers in my '98 (with the round speaker style) without chopping up the door frame? What size factor is it?

 

Harrops are what the new Toyota Tacomas have in their diff basically. They are an electromagnetic elocker. There are no external parts like on our E lockers. They engage Instantly, every time unlike our elockers. They also have a sweet roll back feature where they temporarily disengage if you say, kill the the truck while going up a steep ledge and start rolling backwards. This decreases the chances of binding by a lot in a bad situation.

In theory, should be the most reliable locker out there. Nothing to get gunked up over time like our OEM elocker and no Air lines to break off/get snagged of filled with water. No OBA needed either, just power.

You can get them for around 1300 i believe.

 

Yes the harrop is more expensive, came out to 1200 for the harrop with 75$ install, just no worry of air leaks and what @Blackdawg said

I believe so...Ward @Cruiser Brothers didnt mention a different axle being needed for the rear, @Blackdawg mentioned you might need a different axle for the rear. Only reason I didnt get the rear was cause i already have one with the stock elocker. And I didnt have the extra 1200 or so to purchase it. If I need a new axle then glad I didn't Ward or @Blackdawg can explain better than I...i was sold on the fail safe of the harrop. No airlines, no little motor to fail, or gears to bind together, just push the button and activate the electromagnet

 

The Harrop rear Elocker is for the OEM Open diff/axle in our tacomas ONLY. It is more well known on here as the 8.4'' diff vs the 8'' of the Elocker our trucks come with. (they are still both 8'' ring gears fyi..just a weird name thing)

So i you don't have an elocker from the factory, the ARB and Harrop are good choices.

 

The harrops sound so damn appealing but would cost me an extra $800 over the life of my truck for something that only gets used in really bad situations and can even potentially make a situation worse if abused/used improperly. One day on my next build maybe.

 

Yea i brought that up to them that the cost difference..is rather big. They say that it gets offset because you don't need OBA...

But then i pointed out you can run ARBs cheaply and more reliably than an air compressor with small CO2 bottles. And you need OBA anyways so more people see that as a good investment....

Maybe some day they will come down a bit. But until then, i don't see a lot of people going for them over ARBs really..
