    I think Lexus has (or is coming out with) a twin turbo variant of this engine. If (and only if) that's true, then the posibility of a kit are promising. ECU and all the other difficult parts could be modified from that setup, but I wouldn't expect it to be cheap or easy and demand probably low so would take a while before anyone takes the ball.

    If anyone you know is into fabrication, the turbo manifolds on our trucks should be SUPER easy to make. No individual runners to fab up. Just a flange on the head with a pipe to the turbo flange. So its not a matter of Fabrication difficulty. I think what many people don't know how to tune is the Atkinson stuff (pretty sure you would want it turned off completely) . Im sure with a decent standalone such as Haltech P2000, AEM infinity, or even Link G4 could be able to handle that with a PWM output.

    It's not even true atkinson. it's almost like a VVT-i deactivation on the downstroke.

    Even better then..

    So I guess the answer to OP's question would be VERY realistic.

    Someone just has to have the money and commitment.

    I don't have the commitment as I have other vehicles that need and are getting the speed treatment in my garage. The Tacoma is mainly my daily reliable work horse..

    I just want to see how to mate up the flange to the turbo given the exhaust header is cast into the cylinders and comes out to a "downpipe" single exit.

    Im almost positive no one makes a flange for the head exhaust port. So that piece would need to be fabbed up either on a CNC or jig. Then its just a matter of where you want to mount the turbo(s). Very easy stuff. That's not the issue here.

    @yaminacher

    1. Tune it like anyone else would. Probably be easiest with an aftermarket processor though.
    2. Turbos don't exist for this truck yet.
    3. Turbos aren't likely to happen.

    Absolute horse shit

    I think you'll find that the first thing will be simply turn that shit off, remember it's not full time Atkson, toyota simply change (well extend) the intake cam duration when you're not floring it. As soon as your foot is to the floor (or passed x% throttle) even Toyota turns that crap off. What Toyota describes as Atkinson isn't really Arkinson.
    BTW, The plumbing on any turbo setup is dead simple, it's the engine management that's a pain in the ass on any modern engine.

    To me, the plastic intake and ECU would be the biggest challenge. However, maybe someone will solve the issue for a Lexus IS or something using the 2GR that would make an easy derivative?

    Plastic intake isn't an issue. Neither is ECU if you just go straight standalone.

    Hah. Yeah, that's the big question. AFAIK, no one has gotten around Toyota's encryption for this ECU yet. Some folks are supposedly working on it, but that's all smoke and mirrors until it's actually done.

    Once it can be tuned, then FI will start becoming real.
