265's vs. 285's

    It will impact your mpg, you'll lose approx 2mpg, more if you have a heavy foot.

    This is my 3rd 2nd gen tacoma and the next set of tires I get will be 285s. I had them on both previous trucks and with a mid travel lift I think that the combination of performance and looks can't be beat. No need regear, fills the wheel well nicely and has a large contact patch with whatever surface you are trying to stick to. When I see a sweet 2nd Gen on here with a modest lift and tires it is inevitably the ones sporting 285s that catch my eye.

    I think ive lost more than that... i get under 300 miles to a tank low 200 if i dont keep it under 75

    I usually average 16 in my truck on E load 295/70-17, if I'm cruising on the freeway about 70-75 I can sometimes get up to 17.5

    Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
    I'm at 4WP, I ended up going with the 285's. Their putting them on right now!:thumbsup: Pics coming soon:D

    Before you drive away check for rubbing on the uca's at lock. Not sure if 1st gens are the same as 2nd gens but on my 2nd gens 285s required new wheels or spacers in order to not rub the control arms.

    I'll be surprised if they let him run off with stock rims. They need at least 4.5" backspacing.... actually I think some first gen wheels actually have 4.5" backspacing so he might be good. We'll see.

    My 07 sr5 with stock wheels ran 285s for awhile til I got spacers. It rubbed the paint off my ucas and it made a loud noise when turning.

    You should be good then, 4runner wheels have I think 15mm less offset than stock wheels. Though not sure on 1st gen

    No just the rubber lugs rubbed the uca. In a bad way, like it was trying to lift it off the spindle. Definitely needed spacers and I got some as fast as I could. Think I drove 150miles without.

    I'm running T4R TRD Trail rims and am tempted by 285s. But the 275s are so hassle free while looking appropriate on a DCLB with 2.5" of lift. Can't wait to see the pics of your T4R-wheeled Taco! Hurry up!
