It's been okay. I wish they weren't so damn expensive here in AZ. Luckily, I don't think I need 4x4, but I'm still looking for a clean DC with less than 175k on it, which seems a little tricky to come by. There are 1-3 new ones available every 2 weeks, so I've just gotta keep my eyes peeled.

You might have not seen it, but I put your YouTube home page on here in an earlier post as one of my top 3 channels for learning how to do things on a first gen. I just finished watching your third member swap video. Really easy to follow and understand! The other two youtubers in my top three aren't Toyota specific so it's nice to have someone working on vehicles that are very similar to my own! Keep the videos coming - a 3.4 timing belt video would be great! Thanks for the highly detailed videos.

I don't know where you actually live or what you want to do w/ said ride when you get one--but a pick up truck, to me, without 4W/D is pretty useless, if YOU need it. Sure==more expensive to drive and fix--but you have it to get out of a situation--it's there...Also easier to sell...Just another weapon in your box, as I like to think-
    good luck on your search-

Try increasing your search radius, use

    http://www.searchtempest.com/

Way easier to search craigslist ads over a big area. Pre runner or 4x4 there is a difference in price 4x4 being more costly but depends on what you want.

I'm tempted by 4x4 for obvious reasons, but it just adds one more filter to my search. I have a Rubicon, and I'm getting rid of it because it never sees dirt. Obviously, if a lower mileage 4x4 came up that wasn't overpriced, I would snatch it in a heartbeat.

Well take pretty much settles it! Just be patient and you'll find a 1st owner, low mileage, semi low priced 4x4. Might take longer but it will be worth it

Any downside to having 4x4 that never gets used as such? It sounds like maintenance might be more difficult and costly, but it will resale higher.

4wd is always worth it if you need it. Maintenance is not much difference over a pre runner. For me if 4wd saves the headache of having to walk and get help I will pay a little more for it.

Not really, my transfer was basically new when I changed it after 20k so you could probably let that go a while, can't remember about the front diff

Honestly, my only fear with buying 2wd is that I'll realize I absolutely love these trucks, 4x4 is better, and in 5 years I won't be able to find a low mileage one.

    Hey Anthony,

A Timing Belt video will be coming some time this year. We were planning on doing it on my buddy Sean's rig early this year, but when his auto trans failed, that became the priority for Sean's time and money. The trans swap will be out in a couple weeks probably. Since it's a lot to cover in one video, we think we're going to make it a 3-part video so it's not just one huge video to watch.

When Sean is ready, we'll perform the job on his rig and do all the associated replacements like the water pump, tensioner, pulleys, and maybe even the crankshaft and camshaft seals if they show signs of leaking. Stay tuned!

I like that watching your videos leaves no guesswork. I've seen some timing belt videos where they speed through some parts that I think are important to explain in greater detail. When I start a project that I haven't done before I like to feel like I'm fully prepared to take it on, rather than feel like I'm taking a chance at learning about something in the middle of it. Being fully prepared is nice since even then there are unexpected things that can pop up, however these are minimized with good information on write ups and videos like yours. Look forward to seeing the video series on these maintenance projects. Thank you. Have a good one!

Guaranteed we will do a thorough job of documenting everything involved with the Timing Belt Replacement. I know some may like a quick down and dirty repair video but that's not what we do. Like you mentioned, we don't want people to have to guess how we did something, what tools we used, etc. The goal is to give people everything they'll need to be successful including part numbers, torque specs and any special tools needed.

By the way, you and your Tacoma Brothers will have a lift video soon from us. A guy I work with wants to install a Toytec lift on his 1st Gen Tacoma so my buddy Sean and I are going to help him on the 6th and film it. It's going to be very similar to the Toytec lift we did on a 3rd Gen 4runner, but I figured what the hell, the Tacoma folks might like it so I offered to help him. Stay tuned!
