Fix it yourself, dont fork over $2500 to Toyota for an issue they should be taking care of. You can get the parts for $500 or less and you will be good for another 50k. Oh don't forget to file a NHTSA complaint and also call Toyota Corporate, Maybe Toyota will get a clue at some point. If I could find Seat belt Mikes address I would mail my failed valve set to him,

Went to the dealership to talk to the service dept yesterday. The service manager is a good friend, I have known her for 45 years. I know she will always shoot straight with me. She said they have done one of these repairs in five years. I am not too worried about it now.

At a national average of 12,000/yr, the average '12 doesn't have 70,000mi yet.

So her 5 year assessment isn't accurate until the end of 2017, 5.8+ years if you follow the math.

This is a common problem on several models of Toyota. So much so that Toyota recognized it as an issue with the Tundras and Sequoias with extended warranties on the air injection system and reimbursements for previous work. There are also the bypass systems that are for sale online because this is so common. Was she only referring to the 12 Tacomas? My dealership said that it was very common with the Tundras and just now starting to see it with Tacomas.

So, add mine to the tally- 2012 Tacoma DCSB Off-Road 49,990miles on the odometer... emissions part (switching valve) part number 25710-31022 total cost of repair $987.50

I removed the foam in the pump and replaced with external filter so i don't have that nasty suprise down the road
it is real shitty Toyota knows this is a failure and won't warranty this part!

I'm a MDT at a dealer in Seattle and we've been replacing them under warranty. This sounds stupid I know but the valve assembly is emissions 8/80 but the pump is 3/36, don't ask me why. i actually have one on my box right now waiting for me to install in the morning, under warranty, a 12' with 65k mi

Are you saying if the codes come back that the pump is bad = our dime. If it reads the valves are bad = emissions warranty?

The codes will come back as valve stuck open or closed, when it's the pump you get both bank 1 and 2 stuck codes because the pump feeds both. It thinks the valves are stuck closed because the af sensors don't see the increased air flow. When it's the valve you USUALLY get just one side. As many times as I've submitted the claim, yes! I warranty the valves then inspect/verify the operation of the pump. 9/10 times the pump is ok.

Same for me here, no help from dealer or corporate. Some have had luck getting this covered but that is a very few from what I have seen throughput the threads on this issue. Tacotruck must work at a dealership that actually takes care of there customers.

Is this the pump that goes shhhhhhwaaapppp in the morning few seconds after I turn on my truck?
Mine is 12 with 39K and I heard about this problem in this forum. It seems only afffects the 12s. With my luck I'm sure it is going to happen to me.
Hopefully Toyota will acknowledge this problem soon.
Also what bothers me the most is that sometimes you have a problem with ur truck that everybody knows about, then when you go to the dealer they act like they never heard of it at all.
The service agent will look behind him and yells: hey John do we fix Tacomas
John in the background: huh? Is the Tacoma made by Toyota?:annoyed:
I wonder if they are trained to act dumb

Damn... Why did I open this thread? Now I am going to worry about this until I get a new truck (5 or so years from now).

Yup that's the pump. the pump sucks up moisture (humidity, off-roading, etc) and it doesn't take much for the valves to rust. The pumps are pretty durible and are usually ok. Valves are about $250(one unit) and the pump is like $900. If one dealer says no about warranty for the valve (emissions) go to another. Being independently owned they feel they can make their own rules. The tundras have the warranty enhancement because of where the intake for the pump is, right in the wheel well behind the liner. I can't see them enhancing it for ours.
Easy install and usually only the $250 valve, I would certainly not worry about it.
