I rather doubt it was registered.

As long as the truck has less than 104 miles on it, dealership can sell a returned vehicle as new.

I bet dirty mike and the boys registered it.

    _____

Dealer swaps happen all the time.

OP My truck had 90 miles on it when I bought it. The free Carfax I did earlier indicated 2 miles. It only listed one dealership, which was the one I bought it at.

So the 88 extra miles are from test drives. I hope a pack of Chimpanzees didn't put those test drive miles on it. I'd rather it be from a dealer swap, like what you have.

Having said that, you will love your truck.

Glad that could help. I put in the VINs of my other vehicles and it's interesting to see what is reported. Thanks!

In my neck of the woods, the young men that are working in the oil and gas fields seem to be the ones with the $60-70,000 trucks, with probably $10,000 worth of mods on them.....damn man....this guy would cringe writing that check every month for the next 5 , 6 , or 7 years...but hey, you're only young once, and when youre in your early 20s making $100,000+ a year, I'd imagine they've not a care in the world....more power to em....I am pretty sure I would be dead and gone if I made that kind of money in my early 20s, no , I am positive I would of been! LOL!

    Don't trust CarFax...

I had a 95 S-10 that had been wrecked and rebuilt using an abandoned vehicle... well, the rebuilder used the VIN off the donor car that showed no accidents. So I go to trade it in and tell them it's a salvage but they can't find any info on CarFax because THAT VIN had never been reported as totalled.

It gets deeper... a few years ago 20/20 did an investigation into small dealerships and CarFax. They bought an F-250 from a dealer that had SUBSTANTIAL flood damage from hurricane Katrina. CarFax was clean because nobody had ever reported the car as a loss through insurance. The only way they could tell what had happened to it was by combing back through the title registration records.

Now, all that being said here's what probably happened. Somebody walked into the dealer your truck was originally at and said "I want a red blah blah blah!" The dealer you ultimately bought your truck from had the red blah blah blah, so after a switcheroo now your dealer has your Tacoma with X number of miles on it.

This should not cause you great concern, as most foreign manufacturers make a certain allotment of certain cars. I've bought two new Toyota's and both times the vehicle had to be "found." Where you run into difficulty is a few different scenarios:

    1. Dealer A doesn't want to do swaps with Dealer B, for whatever reason.

    2. Dealer B wants the car and won't honor the incentives that Dealer A had marked on the vehicle.

    3. Dealer A put dealer-added equipment in the vehicle. Dealer B will then charge you for said equipment and probably won't remove it or give you a break on it.

    4. Dealer B wants you to sign contracts on a vehicle you haven't seen yet, then tries to find you something that you didn't want. (Almost happened to me in February.)

Bottom line is, you bought a truck the dealer had on his lot and he didn't have to go hunting for it so you probably got a better and more stress free deal. Sure it now has 100 miles on it but you'd have put that on driving it home anyway. I drove my 2011 Tacoma off the lot with 137 on the clock... no biggie, because they found it and brought it to me.

Mine was trucked from Tennessee to NW Pennsylvania. It had 12 miles on it when I picked it up. Its got almost 17k on it now.

Anything that has not been sold to a buyer can be sold as new with any mileage. Being traded (although its technically a sale since money or another vehicle is bartered between the 2 dealerships) does not count as being sold.

When i started looking for a new truck (early 2015) I seen one (2015) with just under a 1000 miles being sold as a new vehicle. Then the 2016s came out and it was still on the lot as new. I think the dealer then put it out as a used one, as it had over 5000 miles on it by then, a couple months later. I know nobody bought it and returned it, but I think they did that since nobody would consider it being new by that point and they were trying to cut their losses.
