I just did the math on Tacoma production and distribution in the US and here is what I came up with:

    1. Toyota makes less than 200,000 Tacomas each year. The exact number is probably closer to 190,000. For this analysis I assumed 200,000.

    2. According to Toyota's website there are 1,500 Toyota, Scion, and Lexis dealerships in the US. Lexis dealerships seem to be stand alone dealerships but I don't have that number, so for this analysis I will not separate the Lexis dealerships out until I can get the exact number of these dealerships.

    3. With only 200,000 Tacomas produced per year going to 1,500 dealerships indicates that each dealership can only get roughly 133 Taco's per year.

It would be interesting to find out how many Lexis dealerships are in the US because I'm sure they wouldn't deal in brand new Taco's, but maybe they do get a few.

So in summary, Toyota dealerships that sell Tacoma's get somewhere between 133-200 Tacomas per year. The 133 number assumes equal distribution between all 1,500 dealerships. The 200 number represents an unequal distribution of Tacomas to given dealerships that carry Tacomas.

I find this interesting to think about. But then again maybe I'm a nerd staying up too late doing math that I shouldn't be doing :D

I've seen at least 2 dealerships in my time that had more than 133 tacomas for sale... just saying lol

My Dealership is a small Rural one so I doubt they see anywhere near that many a year.

Was there more than one year? At my local dealership there were 2016's and 2017's up until November (I snagged one of the last 2016's).

They don't get them all at once though...maybe 10-12 per month.

I am aware of that, my dealer is lucky to have 50 or 60 new Honda and Toyotas on the lot at any point.

I'm curious about the SR, Sr5, Sport. Off Road, limited and Pro distribution. With color. Is a cement Pro a "great white Buffalo" or is an Inferno off road the rarest of them all.

I have only seen Off Road and Sports at my Dealer and they also had a Pro that came off the Truck with mine because another dealer went out of business that it was allotted to.

That would be really nice to know. I did see some documentation that was less than helpful that was "leaked" back in 2015 where it showed the breakdown by %, but it was based on model, trim, engine and whether it had 4x4 or not. My SR5 was listed as 0 but all the figures didn't go beyond whole numbers. My SR5 could be 0.9-0.1% of production.

When I bought mine it was the only 4 cylinder left. It was also the only SR5. There were no SR's. They had 3 or 4 pro's and 3 or 4 OR's. I think there was 1 or 2 limiteds.

This is one of the data sheets I was thinking of. I may have over estimated the production but numbers are kind of all over the place on the web and this sheet is from 2015.

@NoDak - I know you used to have an awesome sheet you pulled in T4R.org with number distributions by color and model. Do you still have access to that kind of data?

You're numbers are scewed, since as usual, the rest of the world has been omitted.

Tacomas are built in the US and Mexico, and sold in the US, Mexico, and Canada (and probably in Central and South America as well).
