I feel for you. There are a lot of turds in the city where I live. My truck has been scratched/dented so many times I just don't deal with it anymore. When I did in the past though, I used touch up paint from automotivetouchup.com, and it was a perfect match. You just put in your year/make/model/color and they look up the recipe. It came in a small bottle with a brush like nail polish, and while it didn't make the truck look 100% new, it was a giant improvement. For a really big scratch on a fender once, I sanded/primed/painted the entire panel using spray paint from the same site and it really did look 100% new.

The worst time, which was when I stopped fixing it, was when some workers at my apartment complex decided to use my truck as a ladder for working on the parking structure and dented/scratched the hood. No joke. My neighbor saw them do it and they even left boot prints and bits of wire on it from fixing a light fixture. I called my insurance and they paid for it. After that though, I decided screw it, it's just going to keep getting messed up.

I've been scratched/dented/keyed in parking lots so many times I don't even notice anymore. I'm pretty sure a couple times were from an insane ex roommate, others have been spoiled fake punk brats (think SLC Punk) who vandalize nice things for whatever self-validating reason they can come up with, and some have just been careless people who bash into it. I've even been sitting in the driver seat when people have literally backed into me and just parked anyway without saying anything (people in my city are weird like that apparently). I have steel bumpers and rock sliders now though :D. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I walk out to my truck and see someone else's paint on my sliders and bumpers.

Two keyed vehicles over the past ten years.

If you don't know me personally then don't pass judgement.

I'm an honest man that works hard, I pay my bills, taxes, treat my woman good, and overall I avoid people / confrontations. I'm a simple man that minds my own business.

I did not deserve to have my vehicle vandalized, and I haven't got into any fights for a long long time.

Unless you think me wearing a law enforcement uniform means I should have my vehicle vandalized .

I made an insurance claim, I'll see what happens but I'll probably end up fixing it myself.

This is along the lines of my thinking.

Any recommendations for the paint and clear coat?

If you do plan to fix yourself, maybe check YouTube to see what methods seem to be most effective. I can't imagine what I'd do if I ever caught someone doing that to anyone's vehicle, let alone mine.

If it isnt entirely down to metal a good detailer can do a lot.

I had some spots I was certain were never going to look right again....dude I know got every single one out. I know a tree branch isnt nearly as bad as a key, but if they didnt really get into it might get lucky.

automotivetouchup.com, unless you want to use a paint gun in which case most auto paint stores can look up the recipe for you

I was a Cadet... all the officers I were around NEVER wore any uniform outside of work.... for reasons like what your dealing with.... obviously it is hard if you drive your own patrol car but in my area the only time they had a uniform on was when they started there shift at the precinct they also never wore any type of law enforcement clothing they always wanted to look like normal civilians... If I was a cop I would not even want my neighbors to know what I do... to much bad stuff going on now days.

    Stay safe out there!!!

Any auto paint shop supply will have the touch up paint and clear coat that you can mix before use. I do a 60% paint 40% clear on the coat and then 70% clear and 30% paint when I wet sand it after it won't take off too much paint.

Here's a video of pretty much the same way I would fix it.

    Whats up guys, I'm back.
Never got the key mark fixed. I went full potato since I don't want to pay a grand or more to get it fixed, ive just taken the truck out wheeling through the boonies and got a ton more pin stripes from brush and trees. Figure Ill just keep this truck forever and Mod it out a bit to my liking. Just hit 90k on it this week, and I plan on getting to 300k like my last Tacoma.

Also, I tore the plastic fender cover off, or the mud did anyway... Mud was so thick deep and gnarly it tore off my fender thing and mud flap!
The little plastic things that hold it on got broken, and the mud flap went with it as well, any advise on getting those back on without buying a new one? lol
Don't know if you can see the key mark under the mud, lol.

Lol, there was so much mud on the bottom of the truck from that trip, I pretty much couldn't/cant get it clean.
Then the trip where I got it stuck and had to get towed out didn't help either ...
This was the first time I ever got completely stuck, I'm going to write a thread about it, be sure to check out the thread it was crazy!!!
And yes, I was being a dumb ass, driving on motorcycle/ atv trails out hunting, then went off about ten feet to turn around, hit some quick sand desert mud, lol.

It wouldn't of mattered how big of tires any of y'all had, every one of you would have got stuck in that shit too.

    I have nice tires btw.
That was the first time I ever got stuck, and I've been in much deeper mud.
That mud just has a certain consistency, Utah desert mud is infamous for getting people stuck.

I would be willing to bet you 500$ that if you go drive in that shit, you'll get stuck too.

    Ps
I said under the truck, as in under carriage was nearly impossible to get clean(and still is).
