    Latin based languages all sound very alike, somewhat.

    All good, no worries. No harm no foul. I guess to try and make it easy to explain in my opinion, Portuguese from Portugal is more "proper" and Brazilian Portuguese is more "slang". The reason theirs is more like slang is because of the different influences they've had. Portugal discovered Brazil. Then we lost it to the Spanish, who lost it to the Dutch. There's not as much of a Dutch influence as there is Portuguese and Spanish because the Dutch were there for a short period of time, towards the end of the colonization era.

    And there's your history lesson for the day kiddos. Class dismissed!

    I took Spanish from 7th grade until 11th grade, in honors classes in high school and all I remember how to say is that there are cats in my suitcases.

    I'm sure that will come in handy at some point in my life...maybe.
