What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Finished this up and got the tent on. Just missing Rotopax and Maxtrax. More pictures in my build.

 

Which tent is that? It has a hard case?

 

It is an hardtop, the brand now is called Roost. This was a prototype one, hence the reasoning behind no logos.

 

Today I chased down the mystery noise in my truck, think I finally got it figured out.

It's a whine like a bearing, not a belt.

At idle it's barely audible, hit accelerator and increases. I found today that it disappears when the clutch pedal is engaged. If I hit the gas with the clutch pedal engaged there is no noise.

After reading around through some forums I'm convinced it's the throwout bearing.

Anybody tried replacing one of those that can tell me how much of a pain it is, also if you think I'm on the wrong track please let me know.

Pulling the transmission is the hardest part. The actual throwout bearing assembly just slides on the output shaft.
Plan on changing the clutch disc and pilot bearing too while you are in there. Maybe a flywheel resurface and a new pressure plate too depending on your miles.

Mostly just watched him do all the work.

 

Lights, hood, grill, filler pieces, hood latch, headlight brackets.

The one piece headlights will just slide in around the grill, still need the headlight brackets to bolt the headlights in though. Also make sure your one piece headlights come with the plastic piece that gives the headlight a connection point to the radiator

I think they do not and you have to salvage your stock one which you will not have

I know the corner lights and front fenders are different. I don't think that'll be an issue for you though with the glass fenders. The hood is the big one and yes you'll need the 01-04 hood latch at it is taller.

 

Where in Az. I could use those.

 

Actually..this just occured to me..how do you open the 01-04 hoods with a Satoshi??

 

Fenders are only different from non 4x4/prerunner and 4x4/prerunner. I didn't have to change my fenders because of that.

Go through the small opening between the hood and grill. My friend had to bend his latch a little to make it easier, still a PITA I think

 

Fenders are different for all the sub gens for the corner light mounting and flare mounting though..

nice. Just realized that haha

 

Go under the weatherstrip on the hood. Pretty easy just find the spot where the latch is.

 

I live in Tucson but I have them up in safford. So free pickup over there but if not I can deliver for a fee depending on where you are
