Dealer has color of vehicle I want in stock. If I wait for an inbound from another dealer they have will have OEM power locking tailgate but not the color I want. I'm leaning towards color...Where did color rank as a deciding factor in your purchase?

You can add locks on the cheap. You can't switch colors on the cheap.

The power locking tailgate is not a OEM part. It is being added on somewhere after the factory. It's most likely a Pop'N'Lock. You can get the colour you want and add the power locking tailgate yourself.

Yup add a pop and lock, super easy. Even if you pay someone, shouldn't be more than a 30 minute job.

I was looking for a good deal, so I wasn't to picky about color.

    No black, blue, or white.

My last vehicle was gold. It had every option I wanted except for color.

Any time I saw a brown or dark gray one while I owned it, I was envious. I didn't compromise on color this time.

The fleet manager said this was the first time he has seen this on a Tacoma order sheet. Is it a midyear change? He was adamant it was not an add on from the port and is not even at the dealership yet so it is not them.

I am definitely leaning that way. One other niggle. The truck in the color I want will cost me $1,000 or so more, even though MSRP is almost exactly the same on the truck in the color I do not prefer. Dealer with the truck I want will not budge.

Go to a different dealer and see if they can trade for it and sell it to you cheaper.

You can change GF's easier than color, too. Buy what you like.

I stopped just "settling" for whatever color the dealer had. I now get the color I want, and I'm happy in the long run.

If thats true. It's the only Tacoma with it. Or the Fleet Manager was lying to you in order to close a deal. I've had a Salesman tell me once that a car I was looking at didn't need spark plugs because it was Turbocharged. Therefore less maintenance costs. I went to another dealer. Maybe you should too.
