Dealership sheered a lug, should I have asked for a loaner until replacement?

This actually happens most of the time when the tech doesn't take the time to make sure the nuts are threaded on straight when putting them back on. Hits them with the impact crossthreaded and keeps going hoping it will make it to the bottom before breaking off.

If it does he get away with it the next poor sucker will break the stud off trying to remove the crossthreaded and galled to hell nut. The new wheels take a little more care to thread the nuts on straight due to having deep holes around the nuts and tech are pressed for time.

I wrenched for 20 years and have been the "next poor sucker" many times. I always threaded by hand to avoid this.

While we are talking lug nuts and studs.

Chrysler actually had it right back before 1971 when that had regular righthand lug nuts on passenger (right) side and lefthand lug nuts on the driver (left) side.

On the right side the lug nuts tend to want to tighten themselves but on the left side with righthanded threads a loose lug nut will tend to want to loosen even more.

Left hand lugnuts on the left side will want to tighten if loose, and will never continue to loosen and fall off, it's a fail safe method.

My 70 Challenger has lefthand lug nuts.

Apparently not as big a problem as Chrysler originally felt since they conformed with everyone else starting in 1971.

I think there are still large Semi trucks that use lefthand lugs, but don't know for sure.

Yes.... on one pedal though, the pedal to the cranks are left and right threads.

It's the oil-based carrier in the anti-seize that is the lubricant(3-7% by weight paraffin based oil). Here's what Permatex says about their anti-seize compound:
    "Permatex® Anti-Seize Lubricant Category:
    Specialty Lubricants - Anti-Seize
A highly refined blend of aluminum, copper and graphite lubricants."

Maybe a better choice for stopping corrosion to apply an anti-corrosion (Boeshield or LPS3) compound to the fastener after it is torqued dry

I'll keep using it, haven't had any problems in 35 years on any of my trucks or my auto-x car.

My dealership would install an aftermarket stud or remove one from a hub from a lot tacoma before letting any truck leave the shop like that. Hell we have 2nd gen hubs lying around.

I would have fixed this before the customer was even alerted to it.

I don't get how some dealers have Toyota mentality and some do not.

I think they just wanted to go home, honestly. It was 3:15 and their service department closes at 3:00 on saturdays.

My dealership has never sheared a lug but the last 2 times getting them to swap out from my oem tires to my mud tires they have messed up one of my tpms. They replaced them free of charge but the last time they messed up one of my tpms they didn't have one in stock and had to return later to get a new one installed.

    Workin' on it....
I took my taco in for service and had them rotate my tires while I was there. I checked my lugs when I got home (I have 5 spline lugs and 1 security lug on each wheel) and either my torque wrench is off or they over torqued my lugs because there is no way they were at 85 ft lbs.

Discount Tires overtightened/crossthreaded a lugnut on my wife's subaru. We couldn't get it off. They sent us to a tire repair place on their dime who replaced the crossthreaded lugnut and another in about 1 hour.

I disagree. I would definitely take the truck off some sweet jumps before it gets fixed. That way when it breaks, I can blame the dealer, then I can demand a new truck at least 1 trim level above.

I drove around with 5 lugs for 5k miles ... i ddint realize it was missing til the next oil change when they notified me about it. I quietly let them know they are the only ones who service my truck and they replaced it

They use a torque stick in order to torque your lugs with an impact gun. What do you think they do, just take a guess on the lugs' torque specs?

^^^^^ Common (unfortunately) but not really loaner worthy. But they should fix asap.
