Deck plate vs K&N cold air intake?

Which do you think is better?

 

Without any statistics to back me up I'm going to say the deckplate mod. It definately makes a noticeable differnce in throttle response and engine tone, not to mention the fact that it costs less than $20.

 

Ya, i did it already to my taco. I was just curious if the K&N was better.

 

im 98% sure that its been dyno'ed and the deck plate is better by a good amount

 

i done both... i like the throttle response with the K&N better...

plus if you wheel hard or break a motor mount, the stock tube can break off right at the intake box...

 

K&N has dyno's on their website guaranteeing ~10HP gain at ~4800 RPM's. Im guessing that the deckplate mod is not far behind, but def not better.

It will also depend on the season. In the summer, the deckplate mod would perform a bit better as its better at getting cooler air isolated from the engine, however during the winter I see the K&N manifold doing very well.

One thing to keep in mind, the K&N isnt very isloated when you are doing soime heavy off roading. The deckplate mod can be closed to protect your engine

Lastly, the deckplate mod cost about $200 less than the manifold and is much easier.

Which is better is up to you .

 

didn't chris do a dyno test? pretty sure deckplate mod came out on top. but I think mike probably has a good idea too!

 

for me, the HP gains aren't as important as i dont drive faster than 70 on the hwy... i do a lot of street driving and offroading, so bottom end and throttle response are more of what im after...

just depends on how u drive though...

 

I do more ONroad driving then OFFroad.

 

you did the deckplate. now just go and buy a k&n drop in filter. Best of both worlds!

 

Anywhere you look some are gunna say one is better than the other. IMO i think you should go with the deck plate first ( i just ordered mine ) because it only costs $15 so how can you go wrong? If you dont like the performance or whatever with the deck plate then go with the K&N. At least you wont pay for the K&N then realize that the deck plate could have done just as good.

 

I didnt the deck plate and i have the K&n Dropin filter. Did that the same time i did the deck plate mod

K & N is the best! I just cleaned mine and I am so glad that I bought one because it runs so much cleaner after the filter has been cleaned

 

I have the deckplate mod and drop in K&N. Combo works great and I did notice a little quicker throttle response over stock. (3.4 V6) I had the K&N FIPK cold air intake on my older '92 3.0 V6 Toyota Pickup and the gains seemed to be about the same. Different motors, I know, but for a price difference of $200+ I would go with the deckplate. Plus, you can always put it back to stock just by screwing the cap on.

 

I dont think there is any noticable diff between the DP mod and K&N manifold. It all depends on how much money you have.

So where is a good place cheap place that you guys are ordering your DP? I'm in Canada and I stopped at a marine shop and the only thing they had to order had a 2.75 collar underneath so that would put it about through the air filter. I assume the ones you guys are using is a flush mount? The only reason I want to get it done as I'm getting 16 MPG with mostly slow highway driving!
