I need some info, how long have you been diagnosed as type 1? you say that you have been DKA for 8 months? When i went into ketonacidosis, my kidneys failed within days. Let me just say this, if you or anyone has gone thru kidney failure, the pain is so intense you wish you would just die. There is a reason they put you on a morphine drip when kidneys fail due to DKA.
You have medical ins, correct? If the ins company is refusing to pay for your insulin, i would talk to your endo or call Lilly and get your meds for free

Deffinitly sounds like kidneys. Does it hurt if you cough in the area of your kidneys?

You can also pick up ketone test strips at your local pharmacy. They cost about $10 for a vial. Read the instructions, but its simple...pee on the strip, wait , then match the color on the strip to whats on the vial

I went into a diabetic coma when i was your age. When i was admitted to the ER my blood sugar was 1204! Any BS above 250 your at risk for ketones. I started on the insulin pump about 2 years ago and its the closest thing to being normal. My last A1c was 5.8 and i eat what i want.

I cant help with your meds, i use humalog R (fast acting)
Call the makers of the One Touch glucose meter and get a free meter and i can help out with test strips. That wont help much, until you get your sugars under control.

If it comes down to it, apply for Welfare just for the medical. Get your ass back to the ER tho, your playing a deadly hand of cards. When i get home, i will explain my situation in detail for you....

You are a FUCKIN MORON!!!! Please get your facts straight before posting such nonsense!! My husband is a type 1 diabetic and DKA does not last months!!! Sugar readings of 900-1200 will put you six feet under!!!!!!!!! At 600 or above you are in the hospital. Most people die by 700-800. This is so sad that you are such a fuckin waste of human life by faking a serious illness such as DKA just to get some sympathy, fuckin get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" her email is sandywh22@yahoo.com... if you would like to inform her she is incorrect... that would be awsome kinda hurts when im in need and she is bitching me out for it.

Like i said before,.i would need more info. When my BS was that high, i was told by my endo i was mins away from being DOA. I dont know how long my sugar was that high. I dont remember much, what i do remember was the pain i was in. I couldnt breathe, or stand up. I was vomiting and thirsty has hell. I spent 3 weeks in ICU and another week in the regular room.
I do find it hard to believe that you have been DKA for that long, but i guess anything is possible. Hell, i was told i shouldnt be alive today.
Was that email sent to you from someone on this forum?

You really should check out the VA here in Albuquerque. I'm a RN over there and I know there is a person out there in charge of getting veterans enrolled in their system. I'm not sure of his name but I'll get you some info on Tuesday when I go back to work. Even if you only qualify for a small percentage of benefits it is better than nothing. Also if you need to go to the ER again go there it might be cheaper for you.

David Im really sorry to hear this,Ihave had type 1 since I was 6 now 37 its a tough disease as we all know and I know 1st hand with out insurance to cover meds makes it very difficult, as I do not have insurance. It is very important for your health to to get the insulin that you need, I know in all the above comments they have stated ways to get these,I have to do this as well,1st fill out for financial assistance usally your doc or the hospital can give you the forms,2nd call lilly direct and they will assist you with your medication again just a form to fill out, 3rd contact the diabetes association again a form to fill out and they will assist you.It is way to important with disease to stay in as much control as you can.Obviously dont drink much alcohol,There are other ways to have fun that are natural and dont affect your sugars in a negative way, stay away from simple sugars, eat whole foods, etc, etc. My thoughts and a prayers are with you, take charge call all the people above, keep a positive attitude and good things will come. Every day is a battle in this thing we call life.Peace:Dwww.Lillydiabetes.com
