Thats a good questions being I was planning on putting a lock on mine...but never thought about the camera getting in the way.....I was also wondering if anyone had a picture of the camera screen from inside the cab...is it on the rear view?

i think that camera in the rear view mirror is a in horrible spot, due to the facts when u want to change ur windshield glass due to crack or whatever... is going to be a pain to install it plus the labor is not going to be cheap!! another great step thought by toyota, not inspired by us (customers)

should be the exact same...only difference is there's a wire coming form the headliner that goes to the mirror

i agree changing the windshield has nothing to do with the camera. it would be an easy swap.

Yeah most of the rear view mirrors these days have lights or compass or some type of wiring that runs up to them so I wouldnt see it as any additional cost or problem to re-install if you have the right glue stick'em to put it on with. If it was a rain sensing windshield or something then thats another ball of wax as the cost triples.

unless by some crazy science that they can transmit the camera signal through the glass and the camera picks it up by touching it a certain way, it'll be fine. the mirror just sticks there and the camera has a cable physically connected to it. if they unscrew the cable and cross thread it or cut/crimp the cable itself, it'll be ok

I still have no idea what he means about the windshield affecting the mirror mounted to the roof, but anyway..... So the camera is in the tailgate handle?! WTF? So it's useless when you open the tailgate to load something? How do you remove the tailgate now? Is there a wire you have to mess with before taking it off? Or does it not come off now? Seems like behind the bumper or below the tailgate would've been a better spot.

it basically plus in right at the edge of the bed, under where the tailgate folds over. there are 2 dust caps in the glovebox to put on if u remove it. one for the cable that'll be dangling from the gate itself, then the one that covers the plug st the back of the bed. i'll have to test out that dropped tailgate one and see how it looks. i just use it when backing over curbs and to hook to a trailer. i dont really see a need to use it when the gate is down.

oh...and the rear mirror is attached to the glass...not the roof. not sure how ur wanting to say that

So the real question... has anyone with an 09 looked in to relocating the lense to the bumper or a more convient location? This would also allow for the tailgate to be able to hold a lock.

i'm sure that popnlock will make one for the 09, just takes time for R&D to kick in. i'm waiting for the new wiring harness' to come out for the 09's b/c of steering wheel controls and the aux port
