off road vs sport

Is there a suspension difference between these two models? Rear end? Progressive or linear springs? I know in the 2nd gens one had progressive and one had linear springs but I haven't seen any info on the 3rd gens.

There is. Sport has Hitachi shocks and OR has, I think, Bilsteins. Sport has a much stiffer on road ride. It corners well. You can really put it through its paces on winding back roads and it feels good. But it's bouncy off road. OR, according to those who have them, is a softer on road ride and not as bouncy on the trails.

 

I believe the Sport has a stiffer suspension. Mine handles well, but if you hit a major bump in the road you will really feel it.

 

Ladies truck vs mans truck? Fake skewp vs rear locker. Painted flairs vs bilstien tuned OR suspension. Same price for no craw control... need I say more?

 

The OR has Bilsteins.

 

Some one needs a truck to prove they are a man, enough said.

OP- yes there is a difference. Sport designed to handle roads better, OR designed for those that or often. However, lots of folks change out the OR suspension.

I am not sure why the two trims are priced the same, but I figure there has to be a reason.

 

This is 100% spot on. More bang for your buck with the OR.

I was at the dealership yesterday and they had 2 Quicksand Tacomas TRD OR and TRD Sport both 4x4. The Sport looks nice with all the matching bumpers, flares, hood scoop and its more eye catching than the OR. But for the same price you dont get rear locker, crawl control for terrain options, suspension........if i had to pick it would be the OR for reasons mentioned. They had the Sport souped up and the OR was all stock

IMO, and many others, the sport rides like junk on the road (suspension is too harsh)

Lots of folks change out the OR suspension because they lift the truck.

Stock bilsteins on the OR are higher quality than the stock Hitatchis on the sport

 

Well, I like the junk ride then. I take some fast corners and it handles well enough that I want to push harder. This summer when I get out on the dirt roads, I'll have more of an opinion, but as a DD, it is great.

 

Manual transmission and 6 ft bed were non-negotiable for me, which is why I went the Sport route. Had the OR been offered MT with the Access Cab (or DCLB), that would have been my pick. Darn Canadians.

 

Drive both, buy the one you like. Pretty easy really.

 

I vote Offroad

 

Drive a kidney jarring sport around all day and then jump in an offroad.....it will feel like your riding on a feather bed with marshmallow wheels

 

Trust Bilstein for your shocks and Hitatchi for your TV......

 

All comes to preferences. Either suspension is meh stock stuff. Not like people into offroading praise the stock bilsteins or hitachis. The sport offered what i wanted for features and is at no real disadvantage offroad (now shush about crawl because id take a MT over low speed cruise control all day everyday and twice on sunday when the trails get sloppy)

 

I didn't even test drive the Sport because I felt the Offroad was a better value for the money. For me it was more logical and financial rather than test driving to see which ride I liked better on the road. Also I really like offroading and planned on offroading, so that helped make my decision.

 

Also I think the color matched fender flares on the Sport are too matchy matchy. I like the black fender flares.

 

Believe the OR may have a smaller sway bar FWIW.

 

Some colors I like the matched flares and some I think the black look good on. Too bad they don't offer matched or black as an option on both models.
