I need to make my own beer. What books or kits would you suggest for a beginner? @KeptOnChooglin

I know you didn't ask me but:

    Homebrewtalk.com is a great forum.

I like morebeer.com but northernbrewer is pretty good for supplies

How to brew by Palmer is a good book

Or The complete joy of homebrewing by Charlie Papizon (sp?)

My first two attempts were with Northern Brewer kits. It's a good way to start and you can grow into it a bit.

    Going off-script today: Negroni

I can't remember either. I do remember also haggling by a hard time getting it as well. This year's infosujd cheap at my corner gas station. The owner had it in special for $8 for a 12pk. For that I couldn't pass it up!

I built two of them a couple summers back. They were my first welding project. The tough part was sealing up all of cracks for the epoxy to not leak through.

The first thing I recommend is hooking up with your local homebrew club. Meet Brewers. Find out when the club has a brew in and hang out, drink, ask questions and watch other people brew.

You will start brewing either extract (malt syrup), extract and steeping grains, or all grain. But the boiling of the beer (wort) and following steps are the same. Watching and asking questions are going to help you as much as books.

You can make a tasty beer easily, but making great beers will involve more investment in money, time and knowledge as you learn to tune in your water, yeast, mash, fermentation temps, handling practices and more.

How you start will be a function of your bank account, creative urge, and discipline. Good sanitation and practices is the key to good homebrewing. It is not a difficult hobby, but it requires attention.

For a small book Brian Burch, Brewing Quality Beers at Home.

More in depth, How To Brew by John Palmer.

    And... Welcome

I've done wine and stuff just not beer. Cost of a good beer is getting outrageous. I've been to local brew supply store and there is a homebrew beer group nearby.
    Thanks
