4 on the tree and no bench seat! Pity! I remember real bucket seats. My friends dad bought a new 1964 Austin Healey 3000. Talk about bucket seats. I believe they actually took a real bucket and sawed it in half from top to bottom creating 2 front bucket seats. They just put a little foam and real leather over them. My butt hurt after a long cruise but then it went away because it was numb from all the vibrations.

It appears on these threads that I'm always referring to yesteryear. But at 67 that's where all my experience and very fond memories are. When we arrived at 1960 we thought we had arrived at the ultimate state of sophistication. Thin lapels. Thin ties. Tight clothes that fit just right. Cocktails after work or on the commuter trains bar car. Two cars in every garage; one a station wagon for well dressed mom in high heels to pick hubby up at the station. It was space travel dreams and atomic everything.
Cars weren't old bombs or clunky looking. They became streamlined. Everything was slick. Music changed. World war 11 and Korea were long forgotten except by drunks at the bar. Civil rights. Bra burning girls and equality for bra less women who did house work in a nice dress and heels. The cocktail hour and cigarettes before dinner. Then color TV with the Marlboro man sponsor and the Beatles on ed Sullivan every sunday night with the entire USA watching. Hey did you see Sullivan last night was the Monday morning greeting. Those were the best years for most but with Chicago race riots, women's equal rights, the Cold War and Vietnam and every kid in college or drafted into the army plus drugs, lsd, Timothy Leary, psychodylics, college campus riots with military responses and the kent state war resistance and resulting deaths from our own militia the 60's were tumultuous
Forgive me all but that's where i come from so I guess some of my ideas are now antiquated.

I just bought a 2017 Off-Road with a V6 and a 6 speed manual. Looking forward to delivery this week. My first vehicle was a Dodge van with a 225 cu in Slant 6 and a three on the tree transmission. Since then, i've had a Toyota station wagon with a Manual, a Honda Accord with a manual, a Ford F-250 Diesel with a 6-speed manual, and a Tacoma first generation with a manual. I've been driving a Honda Ridgeline for the past few years. The only vehicle i've had with an automatic. I'm giving the Ridgeline to my youngest daughter and am looking forward to driving with three pedals again!

Welcome back. The conversation came up with what my wife's next ride will be. We have a Subby outback 6 speed manual, and she is thinking about going back to VWs, I reminded her that the last time we looked the VWs we looked at didn't have a manual trans. She responded with I guess you will buy me an old one.

Unfortunately you can not roll start a 3rd gen. I was told that and did not believe it. So when I had a dead battery awhile back, I rolled down my steep driveway and popped the clutch like I had done many times before in other Toyotas and....nothing. Tried it a couple of times. No dice.

Me too, and it was the body config and equipment I was looking for. Plus it had less than 5 miles on it, which means I am likley the only one that ever driven it on the road. If I'd had the choice, I might have picked another color....maybe. I feel bad for the folks that have had to wait months, though I cant empathize

Went ahead and ordered this a couple days ago. I think they are built to order, so it'll probably be a few weeks.

I would have waited that long too, mine took 3 or 4 Months which was not bad to get exactly what I wanted.

This is the best after market shifter ball I've seen!!! Is it a matt black or slightly greenish? What's the damage to your wallet?

Its a "Matte Carbon Graphite" from this outfit.... http://www.epcoshiftknobs.com/images/Pop Up Images/CarbonGraphiteMatte.JPG

They have many options on finish, stripes, inlays etc.

Price was good, $45 shipped. Kind of an old school, clunky ordering process. I'll take some real photos when I receive it. Hoping it matches the MGM paint and the gray dash trim well.

Anybody that has driven both the automatic and manual versions extensively of the 3rd gen think that the manual makes more body creaking noise? Such as when shifting gears or going over speed bumps.

A month ago I bought a used 2008 SR5 prerunner with the 4 cyl engine:thumbsup: 72,000 miles and in good shape, was not easy to find a stick. I got rid of my GMC canyon with auto trans, owned that less than two years. What a disappointment that truck was with mysterious electrical problems that could not be resolved. can not believe how pleased I am to be back to a stick. My main reason for wanting a manual trans? fun to drive and less maintenance with a side benefit of being somewhat theft proof since most folks have no idea how to drive one:bananadance: best truck I have ever owned, drove my 93 Toy for 22 years, before that I owned three Mitsubishi trucks with manual trans and frequently drove column shift trucks for the Navy. I find myself going on drives just to enjoy this fine truck.

I hear that too, I think it is the transmission.

Well, I understand that an alternator requires some minimum amount of current (ie from battery) in the field coil so that it can produce voltage. I suppose the ECMs in these new trucks may not respond in the same way to low voltage the older ones did. Your battery must have been pretty much flat!

Get one with NO shift pattern indicated or the wrong shift pattern! Your Tacoma will never be stolen. Then get a 1950's old power brake pedal with power brake indicated on it and put it on both the brake and clutch peddles. That'll do her!! Dannyblues

The more I read through this thread the more I realize how lucky I am to have picked my truck off the lot with no waiting. The dealer up here had 3 TRDORDCSB M/T's at the time. Just had to decide between red, white, or blue.....Murica.

I've kind of been thinking of getting a custom one with a big question mark in place of the shift pattern.
