You could have got around this by flipping the receiver around so instead of it dropping down, it was pointing up. But then you would have obviously needed to flip the ball over too which is tough to do on the fly. I always keep a variety of tongues, balls and a pipe wrench in the toolbox on the truck so I know I can always trailer properly.

You just did far more for your nephew than fix a gokart. It was days like that in my uncles garage that helped me discover my various (and many) mechanical passions, and even what led me right down the engineering path in college. Sometimes a single day like what you just shared with your nephew, can influence the rest of his life. One hell of an uncle

    THIS.

I spent my entire child hood wrenching on cars with step dad, building homes with dad, and hanging out with grandfather who was an Engineer. I will never forget it.

That is absolutely correct. This trailer uses a 2-5/16" ball. Unfortunately the hitch is a drop. The owner of the trailer attached the ball and tac welded it to the hitch so I couldn't put it on a level one. I did have to tow the car in a pinch unfortunately, but it worked out and saved the day. I've been trying to get the owner of the trailer to change the hitch as he has a Tacoma as well.

Merchants in Ellicott City is WAY OUT. I'm going to Appalachian Off Road in Westminster on Thursday morning. They got my friends Tundra on 37s dead on perfect. I'll let you know how it goes.

@68dave i think if your shop got a new alignment machine, you'd corner the market for alignments on here! I've had a terrible time getting good numbers on mine

sweet. I also forgot, the bracket is cast aluminum if that means anything.

Grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't

This, right here^ my entire childhood was spent working on dad cars, various dirt track cars and hanging out at my fathers machine shop.

Killing me smalls. Can't really weld cast. It doesn't like heat and wants to crack. Maybe we can make new parts out of aluminum plate.

yeah, pretty sure heat cycling plus some hard hits caused the failure, got some pictars of it. i found a company that makes a billet piece but a steel replacement would be nice, the dogbone mounts are easy and cheap to replace, this bracket was $30 with $30 three day shipping :bananadead:

yeah, I figured as much since the bolt holes are all on different planes. its just strange, normally you break the Trans bracket to subframe piece, not the trans bracket itself. im also willing to bet that this broken bracket was the cause of the CV coming apart, since when i inspected the CV guts (thanks for catching those skidplate) they didnt appear to have excess wear, its like i just overextended the CV a little and the joint pulled out.
