I know its not, it just dawned on me that this whole thread might be just one big giant troll. Can't say I'd ask for opinions then get mad at them about it. lol

Joe, I gave it a full 5 pages before anyone's incessant nagging aggravated me. No other disagreeing opinions seemed to bother me. And to be honest, the first 8 or 9 responses of yours didn't either.
I just feel like we're married with all the nagging. And there's no begrudging sex at the end to make the nagging worth listening to.

That is the loose stud you can see through the hole. I can't get a good pic with the light and camera, but that's it.

Did the tech not think that was gonna come up?

Or did he figure it had already fallen out

Needless to say I'd flatbed it back,

not sure if mentioning you took the wheel off would hurt or help the cause

to try to find the damn grinding. That is an easy thing to do, same as putting on a spare... nothing that can hurt. But, it gives me the ability to see more of what may be the issue.

I laugh at all of the voodoo about lubed studs vs dry. There are charts available to determine torque specs of bolts either dry or lubed. Anti-seize, loctite or anything liquid is considered lubed. This isn't an exact science where if you are off slightly the world will implode. Toyota doesn't know what crap you are putting on your bolts so legally it is easier to say dry only.

Thank god dealerships no longer rebuild engines themselves. It is a new truck, so I can't imagine the stud was fatigued. Idiots... I would have requested a loaner just to kick sand in their faces.

Looks like he might have pushed stud back through when he tried to tightened it down. It does happen. Only the tech would know what happen.

Well, I forgot I hadn't updated this thread...
I limped the truck back into the dealership on that monday morning (2 miles from the house) and told them what was going on, and what I Thought was causing it. I also told them I felt pretty uncomfortable that I was allowed to leave the shop with it in a condition that would allow that to happen. My service tech (I think that's what they are called) jumped into action. The lug nut had dissapeared when the sheered stud gave way, so I needed a new lug nut and a new stud (neither of which they had I house for some reason). They sent a dealership employee to a local parts store to get the parts, moved my truck to the front of the line in the shop, and had it torn down, inspected, and repaired in an hour and a half. Just in time for me to fly out for 6 days of work. I'm still kinda ticked about them letting me go with a potential problem, but their response was very prompt.
