What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Took off the bedside to do a little repair on it. First thing that's been done in a while! Ignore the mess, the joys of a car port lol.

 

Surprisingly easy to remove the bed side isn't it?

 

I'll second getting a new core support when converting to the older style. Makes getting everything lined up much easier.

After drilling out all the spot welds, its easy to line up the new core support. there is only one way it all fits.

 

How long did it take to replace it?

 

X2- have front wheel balance checked asap.

I got a stock air intake this past weekend. What air filter are you guys running?

 

OEM paper ones in Igor. I have the AFE dry filter too in Frankenstein. I just knock it out every once in a while. Kinda handy for all the dirt miles it sees. Never have washed it though as if its a little plugged up, its stopping more shit from getting in and no doubt it lets too much in new being a "performance" filter.

 

alright TW help. Truck is acting weird when I come to a stop or when I am taking off from a start. It is a 5spd, when i come to a stop it acts like im in gear and jerks, but ill actually be in neutral and not have the clutch pedal pressed down. when i go from a start it clunks as if its trying to get into gear. clutch?(it is original with 170k) i am about to order all new fluids for tranny tcase and diffs to do this weekend. it doesn't do it everytime but it seems to be more frequent. any input greatly appreciated

 

The problem sounds like clutch hang, can you get it into reverse? I had clutch hang issue that was fixed by adjusting the pedal/master cylinder, before that I would have to turn the truck off to get into reverse and start it back up. 170k on a clutch is a lot, though I made it to about 130k on my stock clutch and it looked fine to my untrained eye.

 

Yeah reverse is perfectly fine, its only going forward that is an issue. I am working on pricing out a clutch but shes my DD so down time is a big issue and i have zero at home supplies to drop all the stuff and am not gonna pay a shop 5 times what a clutch cost just to get job done. Dads a mechanic but 2 states away and tells me to replace clutch as it has surpassed its life expectancy. Anyone in dfw area could help a brother out. Thanks for your input wildfyr

Kinda what it sounds like to me. Grease your drive shaft really well with a moly based grease.

Most of the time axle wrap is from worn out rear leaf springs. No amount a grease is going to help with that.
