What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

yeah suspension is on the list of to dos. if only my wife would let me have the credit card.

 

Mine has 250k on it and grease always helps. But yes weak suspension will make it worse.

yeah i am running blocks in the rear. so id rather replace leafs then a clutch, as of right now with time and money. you guys rock

 

that'll do it. Block increase the leverage on the axle so it most likely axle wrap for sure.

 

Today I took my TRD Headers, minus the correct y-pipe for 2 cat setups to a muffler shop that came highly-recommended by a few locals.

The guy said he had actually done a set of these on a Tacoma and remembered it well since it was such a pain in the ass.

Said he'd like to have me drop it off and plan on having for a couple of days to quote "have a chance to walk away from it for a while when it inevitably pisses me off."

Labor-intensive, a lot to remove from engine block prior to install, cutting the excess length due to y pipe, installing correct flange and the FM 40 muffler I want he said anywhere from $600 - $1000 total. Sounds extremely high, I want quality work but damn. My search continues.

 

Header work is pricey. But I've read if folks paying 2-400 for just a new muffler and back pipe...

 

Then maybe he's in the right ballpark. This may inspire me to learn how to use a welder/cutting torch...

Also, with all this Lower Ball Joint talk I registered the truck at ToyotaOwnersOnline.com to see if the LBJ recall had been done or applied to this truck. No open recalls for this VIN #.

 

Put a bunch of weight in the bed. If it's axle wrap it shouldn't do the jerk thing

My old worn out leafs used to do that also.

had some weight in it the other day, but dont remember if it did it or not. just gonna have to order new leafs.....sooo. leaf suggestions. i need atleast 2-3 inch lift, it used to be on 33s downgraded to 31s due to lack of wheeling, but still want ride height for future wheeling.

 

Custom or Dakar or allpro or Wheelers leafs.

yeah i figured probably dakar or allpro. gotta order some kings for up front too. days like this realize it wouldve been cheaper to become a drug addict then a wheeler.

What about Deaver? Are they the ones who make the leaf springs that are J66 or something like that? They don't hold much weight but flex quite a bit. I just have a 1.5" AAL w the stock overload Spring in. I want to upgrade to a leaf pack that flexes really good. I never haul or pull anything and just want to retain the same height I have now w/ the 1.5" AAL. I called All Pro and they said that their Standard leaf packs are rated at 3" but after settling, realistically they sit at 2.5". Which is still an inch too much. I'm not sure which leaf pack to get. I have changed all my suspension components except my leaf packs. And they have close to 255,000 miles on them.

 

Deavers are nice, but that was under the custom order for me. the J59 i think is the pack you're refering too. Deavers or Alcans are great.
