Several times driving over mountain passes when it starts snowing or collecting on the road.

For the question about gas mileage decreasing - no I haven't seen a drop, however, in those conditions instead of going 70-75mph on dry highway I'm going 60-65mph on snow/slush/ice so I think the 10mph reduction offsets the fact it's in 4x.

Could be, I just figured more load = more required power

Yup, I fully expected 4x4 to tank the mpg but surprisingly it seems pretty efficient - which is great for me and the area I drive in come winter time.

Stupid question but... does 4Hi improve grip when turning at highway speeds? Also I learned that if you're going 70+ it will just continue to beep and the light will flash.

When you get those lights and beeps, that's the computer telling you to stop being a dumb ass and slow TF down!

no it doesn't really improve grip on an already dry surface, your going to brake the same distance, your going to accelerate maybe slightly faster but I would not attempt to drift this truck on dry surface roads in 4HI. I don't know where you learned about 70+ the light flashing, I've been 80 in 4HI no problem

Its really like being in 1 x 1, it comes in handy going over the mountains heading to the coast/lowermainland.
Rear wheel drive kinda sucks for snow/ice in a truck.
I did buy full on winter tires this year and they make a huge difference.

I assume you meant trying to engage 4hi at 70+?

You will only have increased traction through turns if you are accelerating. I'll usually slow down a bit slower than necessary for the turn and then accelerate through it.

    1, I don't see how that's physically possible.
2, why are you driving in 4hi at 80mph?
3, 4wd adds alot more drag, it is physically impossible for it to use less fuel.

our trucks don't have all 4 wheels powered at the exact same time, if you have your diffs locked thats different.

WTF is a 1x1? if all 4 wheels have the same amount of resistance then yes all 4 wheels are getting the same amount of power all the time

go out and spin your tires in some snow, only one is going per axle.

Congratulations you are probably the only person who gets better fuel mileage while in 4Hi.
