May have shared her a while back, but Gypsy is the Queen of the Universe, ask her and she'll tell you all about it. I work in the oil feild (geologist) so she usually comes with me when I'm on the road for a couple weeks at a time. Pound puppy, have some suspicions about her "breed" but mostly she's just a sweet dog.

ETA: that's not true. She's actually a complete jerk to most other dogs, but she's my baby and I love her.

Think she is a "cutis patootis." Not as rare as one would think but worth having around.

I think her breed is predominately "ears."

After playing fetch with the pooch. She always looks so small and puppy like in photos. Only 6 months though.

Does anyone have any good exercises or whatever to recommend for a dog with mild hip displaysia? Some days my pup is real stiff, she is already on all of the supplements and dasaquin and i have cut our walks in half so she isnt struggling. I've read that it is best to keep them moving, to keep things loose. I just dont want to accidentally over do it, its not like she can tell me its too much or anything.

I know people that say water exercise is good for dogs with hip displaysia. Have you tried looking into that at all?

How big is the dog? When my mom's tiny poodle had a similar problem we exercised him in the bathtub.

A larger dog you might be able to exercise him in something like a horse trough, but then of course you'd have a horse trough. Ask your vet, somewhere nearby I bet there's a vet that has facilities for this sort of thing.

Poor pup. Hope you find him some help!

Is it congenital or due to an advancing degenerative condition like arthritis? Joint supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin might help him if it's a degenerative condition.

The key to that is to start from a distance while the dog is in a crate or in the truck where they feel comfortable. Give them treats as the gun goes off, then slowly close the distance so it's louder, still while giving treats. Everyone should do this with their dog, even if they're not hunting with them. It makes thunderstorms and the 4th of July much easier to deal with.

^^^CetylM has worked wonders for our elderly dogs. You can get super sized tubs of it on Amazon. If you can find a place that does K9 physio and acupuncture, that's also greatly improved the quality of life for our old guys. They usually have an aqua treadmill for water exercise as well.

I have some in mind already, but does anybody here have any books that they would recommend to train puppies--especially huskies? She needs some work.

    Some really cool shit
I screwed up a dog real good by getting him "used" to gun sounds. I was told, you have to get your dog relating gun sounds to fun things. So retrieving should always be linked to gun sounds. Start with a .22 during retrieving. Even have someone else fire the gun from a distance, working closer and closer all the time. Now, I have had a dog who had zero issues as a pup. Brought him home just before the 4th of July, and he didn't give to shakes to all the fireworks. Other dogs, real problem. Guess it just depends.
