Well looks like I installed it wrong I put the clean machined end in

 

I would call Chase at ECG see what he says if you can wait until tomorrow. You might be able to use it as it is...but I'm not sure. At this point it will be hard to tell. When you insert your CV it doesn't go in easy anyway. So you won't be able to tell if the fit is right.

If you want to try to take it out, I know my needle bearing came out un-harmed, so you can probably take it back out and re-insert it. Taking it out might be tricky, I'm sure you know how tight the tool was to get in to get the needle bearing out. It will be even tighter on the new bearing. I don't know if you ground it down enough to get it in, if there would be enough left to pull it back out. I think you could grind the back edge to help it go in, without taking any off the front edge that would be against the bearing. If you want to try that, you can use your old needle bearing to get an idea where you would have to grind.

Well I knew I should of asked before I installed it but it's been a few weeks since it's been installed and it seems to fine only thing I can see is maybe premature wear being the beveled end is toward the cv axle. But on the better side no more axle vibrations!

 

Didn't realize you were running with it already. You should be Ok, I think I dry fit mine on the CV both ways & it felt fine.

I have the issue on my 2014 TX Baja package Tacoma. Truck is almost stock running 265/75/16 is my only deviation from stock. Dealership has fixed twice now. First time they replaced a needle bearing. Second time they replaced the front differential. After the first fix where the needle bearing was the only replacement it lasted all but one day before I felt the noise. After the differential I went almost 3 days before the vibration returned. Exact same symptoms going into 4WD always makes it go away.

Questions I have:

1) should I take it back to dealer to have fixed and attempt to communicate they need to pair the CV and Diff as people have talked about in this thread?

2) Screw the dealer and put the bushing kit in? (powertrain is still under warranty)

3) Has anyone had issues with the other side do I need to worry about inspecting the passenger side of the front diff?

 

I'm under warranty as well. I opted to install the ecgs bushing myself rather than deal with the terrible dealers in my area. Afterall, the ecgs bushing is a permanent fix. The Toyota needle bearing is hit or miss it seems. Easy choice for me personally!

 

Does anyone have the tool up for sale? Or for loan?

Mine still vibes when braking or deceleration from 30 mph to 10 mph.

no vibes during acceleration between 10-30 mph no humming sounds..

help?!

 

Drive line maybe...

 

Probably need either carrier bearing drop kit or rear axle shims. I added some custom made bearing shims but still have some vibes probably going to take those out and try axle shims and if no luck then it's time for a solid drive shaft

 

Did the tsb on mine, my new truck (a 15" but only has 14k on it) drives like a new truck, even with a small lift

 

I'm dropping mine off Friday for the TSB, I'm hoping it works.

 

Anyone has the removal to pass along? I plan on replacing the needle bearing in the near future.

 

Anyone on the fence, just do it! It fixed vibrations i didnt even know i had! Truck rolls smoother than ever.

 

Mine goes in for the TSB on Monday. They are taking care of it under warranty as they should.

 

If anyone in the Phoenix Area wants to pay a shop to perform the replacement service I found that Smart Choice Automotive in South Scottsdale has a Tech who is experienced with the issue and procedure...also they have the ECGS removal tool. Quoted charge was just under $200 OTD if providing the gear oil, seal and bushing. Just thought I'd throw it out there as I know many shops dont have familiarity with this.

 

Did it get rid of all your vibrations?
