I don't think any pack will cycle 12" with stock mounts on a 1st gen.

Not even going on the outside of the frame? It would be a tight fit, but it seems possible.

Not talking shocks. You could put 12" shocks on but if your leafs only cycle 9" you still have 9" of travel.

And my 12" shocks are my limiting factor...

For myself, my Dakars could flex a good amount more if I had longer shocks. I'll probably end up boxing my frame within a year or so. Currently thinking about building shock towers in the rear fender wells for better stability and still good flex.

Report back after you cycle them.

Only person I know that's properly cycled Dakar's on a 1st gen got like 9.5" of travel.

    Stuff. Also things.
It really depends on what you're focus is. If I were more of a crawler, I'd get some 12s and mount them looking like /\ from the back. But i want something more like LT, without going to a bed cage.

Experience shows that you can typically only get a fairly vertical setup under the bed with a 10" shock. That assumes you're not hanging the lower mount past the bottom of the axle tube. What I want is just slightly in toward center at the top looking from behind, and just enough layback looking from the side to accommodate lateral movement of the shackle.

I'd rather have 10" of well thought out travel than longer shocks for the sake of longer shocks.

Not sure how people are running fairly vertical 10”s without making the lower shock mount below the rear end. Shortbodies?

Cause with my 10’s they still have to be like this /\, which is not what I wanted ideally. And the upper mount is 1/4 from the bottom of the bed

You have to run them below the axle. Simple as that.

The only shortbodies that are "worth it" and barely at that are the 7100s. Barely worth it anyways as they aren't even a full 2'' diameter shock.

Report back when you can keep up without complaining about the bumpy ride. You need to take my truck for a spin this year.
