I did consider trading up to an 09 FJ Cruiser a couple of months ago...until I drove it. It had plenty of power but it bounced and wasn't that great on the road with a choppy ride, PLUS the interior actually had less room then my 09 RAV4 Sport! Not to mention LOUSY visibility to the rear!

Whatever matches the graphics...also consider removing the Chrome Tacoma badges from the doors if you are keeping the graphics on. the double "Tacoma" almost looks too busy...

Im sure others said this but the forums seem to blow up any small issue that exists with a vehicle. Most of the tsbs have even been minor. I don't think theres many other trucks out there that you can drive well past 100,000 miles and go cross country and not have to worry (there are some and Ive owned some but tacomas are in general more reliable).

This coming from someone who did not like tacomas, the interiors seem cheap, and some other things. But I turned into a tacoma guy really quick. We've had two 2nd gens with 150,000+ miles and have driven them both half way across the country. I bought my current tacoma with 145,000 miles on it and drove it 1500 miles to texas less than a week later. Felt pretty confident in it. I also had a 1999 first gen with 189,000 miles I bought with 185,000 miles and daily drove for a while.

Both 2nd gens had the compass problem but easily fixed by soldering the chip (fix found on here).

In all honesty they're quite reliable especially engine/tranny wise, after market support is there (for those of us who care). I will say I'm hesitant bout 3rd gens though.

That being said I am pretty big on preventive maintenance and taking care of my trucks.

I differ from most people on here that I came from a gmc sierra denali that I absolutely think was an amazing truck, so I don't hate on ford and chevy as hard as the die hard toyota guys. For my needs I think toyota has the best midsize pick up hands down.

Other than weak leaf springs none on mine in 87,000 miles. None on 2009 when I sold with 87,500. Did have tranny reflash and spring TSB done on it.

Things I've replaced due to rust or failure in 5 years of ownership of my 2006:
Pre chassis recall: Ball Joints (4), leafs springs(2), brake lines, needle bearing, carrier bearing, ac lines, abs sensors, 4wd actuator, TPMS, 6 brake calipers seized, shocks, wheel bearing, rear oil seal (2), diff breather, universal joint.
During chassis recall: Chassis, rack and pinion, rear bumper, trailer hitch, hand brake cable.
Pretty long list. Getting kind of fed up actually.
