If you are looking to by a 2017 Taco or a Tundra, why not just trade your 2016 limited in on the new purchase? I bet you'll get around $32-34k and save over $3k on tax on new truck?? No dealing with "Joe public" or the frustration and time of a private sale. Honestly, I just don't think the Limiteds are as desired as the TRDs even though they are nice and loaded. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

When I was calling dealerships, they offered roughly $31,000 in trade. I know they'll negotiate, but I was too annoyed that they would even offer that. lol

There is a reason you havent sold it, you are arent pricing it correctly. Why would anyone pay $36K for a used car when for a little bit more then can get a brand new one?

He'd be lucky to get 32K from a dealer.

All small truck sales declined last month. BTW it was 4-5 %. Colorado was a whopping 14%. Taco was still number one in small truck sales which is great news.

Craigslist buyers are not looking to spend 36k on a used truck.

Your problem is it's not used enough. Use the truck another few years then upgrade.

Just as a an FYI/data point - when I sold my F-150, I ended up selling it outright to a local used car dealer (one of those ones that deals in high-end used cars like Tesla, Porsche, MB, BMW, etc.) for about $4,000 higher than CarMax offered. CarMax was a joke in my situation...I appreciate their business model, but it wasn't even a competitive offer.

CarMax offered me $17500 for my 2010 Silverado, Toyota gave me $18,500 on trade for my TRDOR...I could have gotten $20 on Craigslist but the extra $1500 wasn't worth the hassle of DMV, mouth-breathing test drivers, etc.

I noticed the stealership here has more Tacomas on the lot since the 3rd generation came out.

That's kinda my point. Sales in general, including Tacoma, are down. I'm not sure that bodes well or supports higher prices (pre-owned or new) when production capacity limitations aren't driving the reduction in units moved. Not sure of his area but, I can find the Limited Tacoma in my area discounted ~ $2k and that's before I even visit the dealership.

I do agree. The Tacoma Limited is the luxury model (minus the power seats). A different type of customer.

I came from the other direction, 14 Tundra to 17 Tacoma, didn't need full size anymore and we wanted a smaller truck.

All I can add is your Tacoma Limited nice as it is, will be worth no more tomorrow than today. If you truly need and or want a Tundra make the move now, your trade-in value is not going to get better and the 'new' prices will only go up....or you can hold on to it and lament what could have been.

I think Mexico ramped up production a few months ago and that might add to supply. Overall demand might be down as people are able to keep their cars longer now as overall reliability has improved in all makes.

When I was out looking at Chevy Silverados I noticed a few turd gens on the used lot. One was near the service department getting appraised for trade-in.

I did not see any 2nd gen Tacomas on the lot. Just sayin.:boink:

Why not just wait until the 2018 refreshed Tundra comes out and trade then? Because if you trade now you'll be back here "guys, I want to trade my 2017 Tundra for a 2018 but they aren't willing to give me what I paid for it a year ago!"
