Ford deemed the Pinto rear gas tank fires normal.

    Normal != Okay or acceptable

It just means it's "normal" for Tacomas to sound like a howler monkey on the highway. In some ways it's more damning for Toyota to chalk this up as normal.

    That means it's common.

only way you will prove it to Toyota corp is to have the rear examined by an expert a 3rd party and if the conclusion says its a defect then you have a case, but the facts are Toyota corp considers it normal till then

Im going to guess that the leak is on the passenger side right where the head meets the block

I worked at a Suzuki dealer 13 or so years ago. We did 4-6 timing cover reseals a week. Never had to pull an engine to do one.

I've never heard of having to do that either, but from what I've been told it's the only way to perform the job on these 3rd Gen trucks.

Not enough to have a build thread.
Not sure about third gen tacomas, but on the newer ford diesels I work on, to reseal the front cover, you're supposed to remove the transmission because the upper oil pan bolts to the front cover, and that can only come out the rear, after the transmission and flexplate have been removed. I can't think of a reason theyd have to pull the trans and engine, but I haven't worked on a third gen, or even second gen for that matter. Just my first gen.

Sorry to hear about your issues and misfortune. Hope you enjoy the truck after it's fixed.

Thinking about doing the same thing. No problems with mine other than a mildew smell when you turn the fan on and the few fungus gnats that bounce around in your line of site on the inside of the windshield.

I park next to 2 big Sweet Gum trees and the pods are getting ready to release big clouds of yellow pollen. Red buds are in full bloom here in Illinois but I was never bothered by there pollen. Freaking Sweet Gum trees are just plain nasty but they do put out some serious shade.

Hey I was looking under my hood yesterday, does the a/c condensation collect in a housing right under that cabin filter? I see where it runs through the firewall and it is about right in line with the cabin filter/glove box. May give that a couple blasts of Lysol before I put the new filter in.

Yes that is correct. On the firewall side, you should be able to see the short drain line about maybe three inches long. Good observation. 409 works good also.

I picked up a bottle of LA Awesome Orange Cleaner from Dollar tree that I like real well. Although I have used gallons of 409 in the past. Think I'll give the drain tube a couple quick blasts of canned air before I take the filter out just to make sure it is draining. Don't recall seeing the ground wet under my truck last summer. Thinking it may have a obstruction in the hose.

You're probably still thinking Toyota makes the best and most reliable vehicles available because your mom had a bullet proof 2003 Camry or something.

Sadly this isnt the case anymore with all Toyota cars. Some are worse than others and the 2016 Tacoma happens to have "much worse than average" reliability.

Just get it repaired but I get what you mean. You'll be driving puckered from now on.

2grs and 1grs have always had that problem from the get go, the tricky part is that you have to remove the upper oil pan to remove the timing cover.

Honestly, mine is a pretty good truck. This forum will make you paranoid if you aren't careful.

Honestly, if you are thinking about re-gearing, this might be a good idea.

Now you know why the 2016 was traded in.

Wonder what other problems it had, persuading the previous owner to trade it in.
