Bolt on skid plates?

I was looking to get a new skid plate I fucked my trd off-road one up. I like the trd pro ones but trying to see if there's any other routes first.

Toyota skid plates are crap, buy a good aftermarket skid plate. If your truck is a daily driver and doesn't have extra heavy springs. I recommend getting Aluminum. I've beat the hell out of my Mobtown IFS plate and I'm not disappointed.

Mobtown plates are great. I have plates and sliders from them and not only are they strong, they look good too.

 

RCI off road. Mine already took a big hit with no issues.

The TRD Off Roads are more like splash guards and I too shredded mine the first week long off road trip. Just go with a real steal plate or aluminum if you have no other load. I run Mobtown skids and I've come down center hard where it really should have broke through the skid and broke my front diff I hit so hard but only a slight bend/scratch. At that points its the quality of the steel and welds that will save you.

 

Something you need to consider that no one has mentioned when looking at after market skids. How do you change the oil or have the oil changed? Some companies do not have a cutout and require the whole plate to be dropped..

 

My AllPro Offroad front plate seems pretty sturdy. They advertise them as completely bolt-on. Ordering was simple and they had no problem charging my PayPal immediately. Delivery was fine. A little over two weeks after ordering I emailed for an update and they sent it the next day. The install was pretty straightforward so there weren't any instructions or anything included. I was able to mostly bolt them on myself. After I got it mostly on I just had to take it to my off-road shop to have him open up one of the holes so all the bolts would fit. It's the only front skid I've ever had, so it's definitely the best one I've ever had, too.

 

The factory skid plates are just splash guards, you should definitely go after market. I run All-Pro skid plates, but there are lots of good manufactures out there.

 

Mobtown.... well if you want a REAL skid plate that you can actually use to skid your truck over rocks. This one is the real deal. Probably even protect you from an IED bomb proof ... possibly!

Just so you know, if you have a diff drop, most aftermarket IFS skids will not work for you.
