I'm needing to upgrade to 700 lb springs. Truck sits level but rides rough as hell and makes a loud bang when I hit holes or bumps.

Do you have more preload than recommended with the 600lb springs?

Yupp. I took it to a shop and asked them to bring up 6 threads and they cranked the shit out of it till it was level. Also did damage to the threads themselves .

They say you can get 2.5"-3" out of 3rd gen just fine without mucking up all the ride quality, and that is around 2" of preload (amount of thread showing). Maybe it's because of the winch bumper on there.

Wow. Did you at least get them to reimburse you for your time and damaging your shocks? Or did they even offer to get them repaired or anything?

Yeah you need 700lb springs for sure. That's why I plan on starting out at 700 because I prefer a stiffer ride quality and it works with armor down the road.

That's what I'm at and I've got 7-8 threads showing. That bumper has to be doing it. Do you have a winch behind there too? If so you're looking at a couple hundred pounds at least of additional weight. Makes sense to put the 700 lbs springs on front.

It's a buddies shop and his top guy did it. It don't bother me as long as I can replace the spring.

Clean the threads up as best as you can. That perch will need a lot less preload and its gotta go up on those threads. As long as the threads are still there, just the finish/coating is damaged, you should be ok

That says to me that you got too much preload (too much height) from the coils. I bought the "T-handle" made from King to adjust mine on the fly as long as the wheels are off the ground. My LT coils were about almost two inches too high and it made the ride rough and very loud from the factory. After adjusting them, they are much better. I would recommend going down quite a bit on the preload, might break something in the long run with that much height.

Do you have a full plate bumper and winch in the front? That seems like pretty heavy springs for a stock set up and you will likely have the same stiffness that you have now without some weight to soften them up.

I got c4 lo pro,10k smitty, full skids and sliders. With the winch and light bar in that bumper it felt to be around 150lb or so. I got a shade over two inches of threads showing. Truck deff was smoother riding before the last crank.

Ah ok cool then, the 700 weight springs should be a welcome addition.

So you can adjust the resivor type coil while installed with that tool? I thought the coil needed to be removed to adjust. I also noticed that last tech that did it actually unhooked the hose to the resivor and allowed oil to come out . Would that effect the performance of the shock?
