I just got a call from my dealer and they have passed my complaint up the line. They have also asked me to bring the truck in to the dealership on April 6th for a regional Toyota rep to see the issue first hand. I will post the results after the meeting.

Cool. Sounds like you have a defective component. Hope they resolve it with minimal hassle. It works fine with my iphone7 and Qi charging case I use.

Mine works well, I can charge and all that but it gets really hot. I'm afraid that my phone will over heat and shut off. Any one else having a heat problem?

heat is always an issue with qi.

it helps if your phone is lined up well and using either a thin case or no case, and make sure that your screen turns off. I've found that if it's lined up well, I only get great issues if the truck was in the sun (pad is physically hot) or if I'm running gps, Pandora, and various other background programs at the same time.

This is one of my favorite features of this truck. It's very satisfying not having wires all over the place. Mine works great. I do agree you need some sort of non skid case so it doesn't slide when you take a hard turn or brake suddenly.

I got a call April 3rd from my dealers parts department, they informed me that the Qi charging parts had come in. Interesting I had not ordered any parts. They were not sure who did. I am still bringing the truck in on Thursday the 6th. Still expecting the regional rep to be there but who knows maybe there is a known fix??? and they ordered the new parts??? they are also going to work on the bumper/bed alignment issue at the same time. I will post an update.

When I first bought my Truck the sales person said it works better if you turn it on before you start the truck. I tried it out and it does make a difference. If you press the button when its already on it gets finicky. Also if your phone is at a 20% charge or less its best to turn it off and charge. Otherwise you will experiencing it charging on and off.

Mine works fine but not in the center. I have to move mine to the far left and towards the rear of the truck. Also will not charge in a full otterbox. I have 2 phones, S6 edge and S6.

same with me... has to be over toward drivers side but it works well through a leather and plastic fold case.

Mine works, it just does not work "well" IMO. I have a Note 5 and it takes FOR FUCKING EVER to charge. 1% maybe every 10 minutes. Case or no case, doesn't matter. Phone also gets super hot -- can't be great for it.

Plug in to the ol' cig lighter works MUCH better.

I love the charger. I have a Verizon wireless cradle at my desk set in....done. I have a droid turbo with the nylon back. No slide in the Qi charger mat and no heat. It cranks out about 10 to 20% per hour depending on my Pandora and GPS usage (GPS because Google is easier than ETUNE...seriously who has their voice command working.). The wireless keeps the truck less cluttered and opens a USB port for the kids pads.

I bought the truck for the JBL and tech but my favorite piece of tech is the power rear window.

I also bought it for this...

Had a power rear window on my Sierra Denali. Used it once in 3 years just to test it out. A bunch of shit blew into the cab of the truck.

Well the dealer had the truck on the 6th, and the regional guy came up. They did some testing and said everything is within spec., That my problem is that the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is a rapid charge phone which draws more current and the Qi set up in the Tacoma is a slow charge setup. They claimed they even did a temperature measurement and it was in spec at 96 degrees. Funny thing when I got the truck back the air conditioning was on. Wounder why it passed the test. When I asked to see the spec, I was told the dealer did not have one and of course the rep was gone. So much for the phone list that Toyota publishes.
The second item they were to look at was the bumper issue. Again I was told that everything is within spec. They said that 5mm tolerance is acceptable. When I asked 5mm from what the dealer said he didn't know He did say the they went out in the lot and agreed that most of the truck in the lot had mis-aligned bumper parts. Again no copy of a spec, I was told they did bend/flex some of the plastic parts, after I asked what they did because it looked a lot closer. Today I measured it with a micrometer again and found the difference is down to 0.120 thousands of an inch or about 3mm. It isn't perfect but it is a whole lot closer that the 0.423 thousandth (approx 11mm)which is where we started at. It only took 4 tries and half the original parts replaced. Dealer has been great - Toyota not so good it seams they know they have issues.

I always leave mine on. I'm wondering if that is a problem. If it isn't, I'm thinking about wiring it for "always on when the truck is on" and giving myself switch space for my light bar.

I don't leave mine on so possibly that won't help it work any better. I don't see why that should be an issue though.
The fact that mine works when turning it on when needed (before you start the truck) might just be a coincidence.

This does not make any technical/engineering sense. It should not matter whether it is turned on after the truck is started or is left "on" so when the truck starts it is already in the "on position." When it is switched to be "ON" the power and function is the same regardless.

The usual. Waze to be advised of hazards and cops while on road trips, music playing, etc.

Yeah, there seems to a lot of junk out there. Make sure you buy from a vendor that handles defective returns easily, such as Amazon or Amazon-fulfilled third party.

The case I have in my Qi charger magnetic Frankenmount has been working great for months with my iphone7. Someone else claims he's had a couple bad units of the same type, maybe a bad batch, again order from somewhere you can easily return it to if it doesn't work. The patch I used previously worked fine too.
