I took off the air dam when the Pro skid plate came out. I also changed to the Pro wheels and tires. On the only 2 plus hour drive I ever take that is the same route, MPG has dropped as much 6 mpg. I know a lot of variables are in play, but same route, same grandpa driving style and gas brand. I think the penalty is more than most admit, but the Firestone Destinations to the Goodyear Adventures also have an effect. But hey, it is the cost to be a Bro!

Tacoma is sluggish at interstate speeds because of stupid gearing choices, not because of the engine.

Removed the ugly mustache within a few weeks of getting my truck and the MPG difference wasn't anything noticeable for me. I drive about 50 miles round trip to work and back daily, all freeway, and I don't see any measurable difference in MPG having it off. I'm not sure if it actually made the truck louder due to wind noise as others have noted because I have loud exhaust and am a windows down guy, but I suppose that could be a concern for some. It comes off/on in 5-10 minutes so if you don't like the performance having it off its a quick easy install to put it back if desired.

2016 Sport AC. I'm definitely in the minority here. I actually don't mind the way the airdam looks on the truck. I also don't offroad it, so if I did, that would probably make a difference.

I also don't commute in mine, but I generally average 19-21 MPG in mixed driving. To be honest, I think the potential wind noise would bother me more than any drops in MPG.

I'm driving a stick and my gearing is much lower. I'm still sluggish.

    Took mine off. No issues.

ORs and Pros don't even come with them installed.

Don't think too hard about this one.

Thanks for all the replies.. not really overthinking it, just curious what others experienced. I'm quite mechanically inclined, so removal/install is not the issue, just hate to waste time. As far as " BRO-ness" goes, that's probably why Ill just leave mine on. Never one to follow the crowd just to be the same. Guess that's why I bought the SR5, I just couldn't see me driving a truck with TuRD on the side of it. Thanks again to all who responded

In the end it is personal preference. I chose to leave mine on as it really does not affect the approach angle much and I do not do any hardcore wheeling or I would have bought a Pro or Offroad. Secondly, unlike many others, I believe that Toyota and it's engineers actually do things for a purpose and if they believed that the air dam was needed to provide a quieter ride, less drag, etc. then why mess with it. If looks is the reason, then tear it off. Off my box.....

Was wondering the same thing when I picked mine up in September. Waited 3-4 weeks to run a couple tanks through with the air dam on. Took it off and hardly even noticed a difference in MPG. Realistically I would say it decreased by 0.5-1.0 MPG max, if any at all.... its such a small difference its hardly noticeable. IMO definitely worth taking it off!
