Should be 3.5" or 4.0", don't think Tom Wood's go smaller than 3.5"

Right whatever the stock size is. Does anyone know what gauge tube is used on stock vs tom woods?

The speed at which a shaft whirls is related to its stiffness and mass and length. Bending Stiffness is a function of area moment of inertia, you get more bang for your buck (and lb) to grow diameter as much as you can before significantly thickening wall.

Installed the TW 4" shaft last night . I used a cutoff wheel to remove the whole center section of the center bearing support cross member. Takeoff vib is eliminated it seems, didn't drive much at highway speeds but it feels like a SIGNIFICANT loss of power? At low speeds i didn't notice anything but 60-65 feels like my motor really has to work harder now to keep things spinning.

Lol, not that I know of!?! Ya "feeling" power is terribly subjective but sure felt real. I only took a 5 min drive on interstate, will drive it for a couple weeks and see how it goes. Sure was nice to be vibe freeish (I'm still in that paranoid phase of feeling every bump in the road and thinking it may be vib)

Got the driveshaft back today, and unfortunately it's still about the same. I'll end up returning it. Super bummed as I really wanted it to work as driving feels so solid and connected with the one piece.

For those thinking about going this route, my truck is heavily modified compared to stock. Lot's of weight, spring under conversion, gets driven hard off-road, etc. So don't let my experience sway you too much. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Tom Woods and they have been nothing but amazing to deal with.

Anyone got a stock on they want to part with? V6 - Doublecab - Shortbed - 4wd

This could be a good excuse to add a taco box crawl box which would shorten your driveshaft and maybe let you run single piece and crawl like a sob.

Did anyone else need longer bolts for the rear flange on their new Tom Woods drive shaft? If so, what did you use?

Just going off of the new flange thickness it looks like the stock bolts will be around .200" short. Haven't mounted anything yet.

New flange thickness is .175" thicker than the stock flange.

I recall there being plenty of extra thread left on the stock shaft flange. Even with 0.175 more on the TW flange I would think it would still have enough. Did you try and put the bolts through yet with the flange surfaces mated flush with one another?

    I love driveshafts!!!

    Ha.

4 hour round trip today to pick up a used stock assembly. Replaced all the u-joints and carrier bearing. Got them take off vibes again but it's smooth all the way to 85 mph. May be able to get it a bit smoother playing with angles and since I don't have severe axle wrap like a spring over setup should make setup a bit easier and manageable.

    Good times.
