It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
I just ordered a shasta and am thinking of going with the rci rack. Let me know if there is room to open the front window canopy without the springs hitting the cab!

That makes perfect sense. My thought was to actually put a RTT on top of the cap/topper, as opposed to sleeping in the bed. That way I would still have all the usable bed space, but would be enclosed and lockable. Do you know of any particular reason why this wouldn't be a good idea or why your setup is better?

Cost is probably the biggest problem. Campers are substantially more than a bed rack. Weight might be a concern for some as well although that totally depends on the design of the bed rack. Lastly, mpg's and becoming top heavy were my reason to go the bed bars route. My RTT sits much lower than it would on top of a camper so I have less drag going down the road and it feels less top heavy on off camber trails.

That being said, I do sometimes wish I had an entire camper to store gear in.

Did open it up before I drove home that day. The window facing the cab is a little tricky. Basically you have to do a little bend on those two spring rods for them to fit correctly. But the guy that helped me works for CVT and said that it's normal for some rigs to have to bend two rods.

Thanks. Looks like you actually have better visibility out the back than I was expecting too.

That all makes a lot of sense. That might also be the same for a 4Runner then as well (top heavy). I'm torn between the Taco and 4Runner and don't necessarily need the bed/extra storage, as it will just be me and my wife. Also already have an old truck I inherited for when I really need a truck. As usual for me, I'll probably spend the next 6 months researching and surfing these forums before deciding. Thanks for the input.

Any of you guys have any close up pictures to where the RCI bed rack mounts and where the posts sit on the bed rail?

This is a old photo from when I first put the rack on. It's the closest thing I have on my phone right now.

I've been talking to @ctfriel and we think it will fit with my Truxedo Lo Pro QT! Definitely might be ordering this real soon!
