In all honesty, after having my LB for 3.5 years, I have only needed the LB about 3 times and that was mainly for helping people move. I grew tired of trying to maneuver it in tight spaces, especially LA where I go often, and just felt it was time to downsize. Although now that I have the SB, all I see on the road are LBs. Haha.

I was actually going to get a LB but after my wife kept seeing some tacoma LB's in parking spaces, she basically said, "I dont think i can park a truck with a long bed". So with that and following the double edged sword statement "happy wife happy life", i opted to get a SB. The SB has been more than enough for us in terms of loading and stuff. Now more so with a camper.

I was actually just eyeing your shell. I had an Undercover Flex on my LB and loved the idea but hated how cheap it was because it ended up falling apart after about 2 years. I wanted to change to a shell but am glad I procrastinated when I had the LB. Now it's a MUST for my SB.

How do you like your Leer so far? I'm comparing the different vendors now and really can't decide on which shape I like best. All I know is I want vented windoors so that narrows my options.

I take it neither of you have ever driven a full size work truck. LB taco is like a parking a Prius after that :D

My Leer has been good. Honestly i don't know it took me this long to get one. I love the vented windoors. It makes it that much easier to grab stuff for me. The vented part is good of the windoor from leer is nice. My only complaint is that it doesn't slide as smooth as i would like.

I shopped around with several dealers for ARE and LEER. For me, my options were pretty limited to 3 dealers and I chose the dealer that had the best price for the options i wanted. I also asked what their method was on installing and sealing the truck. Tacoma's are notorious to leak in left and/or right sides towards the front cab side so they need to make sure they know how to address that. Anyways my options are below..

    100xr
Front sliding fold down window - 100
Vented windoors on both sides - 225
Roof rack tracks - not sure.
carpeted interior - free leer coupon

Also just a heads up, I had a guy PM me stating his Leer dealer told him that windoors were not available (which is untrue). So i sent him a pic of my shell and serial# he can provide to his dealer.

Very true. The biggest vehicle I've driven and have parked are Uhaul moving trucks or the those big box fedex trucks. but of course not as a daily driver.

LOL. I've driven a full size dually before but would not want it for a daily driver. :D LB wasn't that bad, but the difference in the SB is quite noticeable.

Thanks for all the info! How much did the shell cost you altogether? And what did the dealer did specifically to combat the leak issue?

close to 2500 with those options with installation. i was quoted 400-500 dollars more with installation with the same options at other dealers not including the bed rug. Not sure why such a jump but maybe they thought i haven't been looking around. The dealer i bought it at where familiar with the leak issue on the tacoma. They ended up doubling up on the seal around the area and as well as using black silicone seal to make sure it's good. It's been raining here up in san francisco/bay area the past few months and it's been pretty dry inside my bed.

Installed the Pop N Lock 8521 today. Spliced into the wrong wires like a noob. Easy fix though. Will possibly solder them in place at a later time with some help from my dad.

Tomorrow is debadge/derp day. Completely debadged my last Taco and I regretted it. This time I'm just taking off one of the badges on the back and derping the rest of them.

I'm glad to hear the seal is holding up so far. Where is the main leak area? Near the cab? I don't understand why they can't create a solution for this direct from the factory.

The place I went to also added extra foam seal on the center rail and butyl sealer at the corners (you can shape it and it will never harden or dry)

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to have the installer add some of this when they do the work, if they haven't already planned on using it.

Yup, near the cab. The main areas of the leak are around the front edges of the bed.
