I just do a set of my first workout at a really low weight. For instance, if it's chest and tris day, I'll warm up with 135x6 on flat bench then after that, I'm good to go. I do stretch for a minute or two before lifting though

I tried to switch to mornings, but it's not for me. I have to have my carbs pre-workout and going before work at like 5:30am, I would eat a banana and chug my preworkout on the way out the door. My lifts were so weak though. For me, it's a food thing. Also, I'm a zombie until about 9:30 am anyway.

Bench no matter what I'm doing it's 135 for a few reps to warm the muscles and may even grab some dumbbells and do flys.

Deads again 135 and some air squats.
Squats: I just started squatting again and it's 135 for warm up.
Arms: bicep: 20-25's then tricep work and shoulders.

No shame in air squats if your max is 165. Hell just do the bar that will get you in tune with your form.

I found if I don't warm up a little bit I get fatigued too quick with soreness

Also be weary of warming up too much. I see a lot of folks wear themselves out before lifting heavy and their body is too tired to move the weight. When I'm going for 315 on bench, I do 135x6, 225x12, 315x1 or 2, and then I go back down. I see a lot of people do 135, 225, 250, 275, 300 and by the time they're at 325, they're fatigued

    This......

I used to do this and my numbers suffered. By the time I got my max I was so tired or weak I couldn't get it. Now it's 135x5 etc etc up to 315 currently working on 350x1

    None yet...
I do a 500 meter row.. (2:00min) to get blood flowing.
I leave work and go straight to the gym after my 20 min commute. But then like the rest of the peeps, one or two warm up sets then go for it.
@TXTaco13 you need to buy some play dough

I'm the exact same way. If I don't eat, I feel weak. But then if I eat I don't get my caffeine buzz and tingle from beta alanine. I mean alpha alanine cuz I dont put beta anything in my system!

EDIT: Sorry, felt left out of the beta alpha thing. I know it's a lame joke.

Lol that sounds like a Dom quote!

I really wanted to do the am workouts, but I've never been a morning person and my workouts were so shitty. I love going after work though.

There's too much reading my ADD won't allow but so much.. But here's my three nickels..

When it comes to warming up.. Warming up is strictly for pussies.

    JK

In order to not regergitate some other good points already made..

It sounds to me like your going with what your body is telling you is good...

But I'm a believer in warming up, the older you get the more apparent this is as a good idea and beneficial over all..

You can do some warming up on the cardio machines like an elliptical or stair machine (the kind that actually has revolving stairs is killer for giving you a pump and warming up).. Just BC your using that "cardio machine" doesn't necessarily mean you're doing it "for cardio"..

The other is body weight~ Example simple pushups, pull-ups, un weighted squats etc.. Do them to a point where you "feel" warmed up.. You can warm up with weights, but like Jacked Zach was mentioning you can over do it and wear yourself out BEFORE hitting heavier stuff.

There's no golden rule that applies to everyone..

But thru experience and years.. Warming up is a good idea, you get blood flowing into your muscles etc.. And lesson the chance of "potentially" pulling or popping something.

    [IMG]

Since everyones a little different hard to say.. you might have to experiment for a while to see what works for you and you may have an adjustment period of sorts..

The pre workout, I'd say try and drink it 30min before..

You feeling sick, maybe you are pushing yourself to that point. Maybe try and not eat before and just pre workout, or not have a big bfast or just a banana and peanut butter or something...
Plus if you exerting yourself to a certain point with food in your stomach that can in itself make you sick... Hence why I mentioned dialing it back.

If I'm workings legs I'll do brisk 10 minute walk on the treadmill to get blood flowing. And then I start out with a set of 10-15 squats with just the bar to get started. If I work upper body I almost always do a 1000m row (takes 4-5 minutes) before my workout.

Plus in the evening there is more people, and we know you like a crowded gym lol

I have an hour commute from work to gym to home. I eat my pre workout meal almost as soon as I get in the car. This weeks been hectic so it's been cooked oatmeal heated up right before I leave the office. At about 15 miles out I drink my pre then sit in my car at the gym and read this shit show. By the time I get in the gym and changed. The pre has started kicking in and I do my warm up sets.

I had the same thoughts. It's only when I squat really since I'm putting a lot of stress on my body. I know there's a fine line between eating to have sustained energy or not eating and drinking pre for a quick burst in the gym. I think I'm going to try banana and PB before and a bigger meal after. And then lift legs on my lunch break instead of before work.
